May 20, 2009 —Vacation rental bookings in May 2009 on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are projected to be 31% higher than last May. This is a significant jump, especially following WeNeedaVacation.com’s recent report of a 6% increase in March and April over the same time last year.
Booking Rate Details
For Cape Cod alone, vacation rental bookings for May 2009 are projected to be up 34% over last May. Nantucket is expected to be up 18%from last year, with Martha’s Vineyard coming in at 21%.
Season to date, overall bookings are still down from last year. Martha’s Vineyard is only 6% behind 2008; the Cape is 13% behind; and Nantucket is 26% behind. These numbers look at the total bookings for summer 2009 thru May 19, 2009 vs. total bookings for summer 2008 thru May 19, 2008.
Pricing
Vacation rental prices compared to last year are only 0.7% higher for Cape Cod and the islands. Specifically, prices have increased 1.1% for Cape Cod and 1.0% on Martha’s Vineyard. Prices have decreased 3.5% on Nantucket.
