About Tuesday Talks: Roald Lokken, Ph.D., 'Benjamin Godfreys' of Chatham...Join us at 5PM on Tuesday, June 10th, for a 'Tuesday Talks' lecture with Roald Lokken. Inspired by his volunteering as the re-enactor of Col. Benjamin Godfrey at Chatham's Grist Mill in Chase Park, Roald has done research on several of the Benjamin Godfreys of Chatham in the 18th and 19th centuries. He will use stories of three of those Benjamin Godfreys of Chatham as a framework to discuss history, war, emigration, commerce, grist mills, genealogy, and property records in Chatham. We can't wait to see you at this fun and historic talk featuring topics that are close to home!Biography on Roald Lokken, Ph.D.Roald is a retired naval architect who spent his working career researching and designing offshore platforms for the oil and gas business. He is a Fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and is a docent at the Houston Maritime Museum. He was raised and educated in California, spent his working career in Houston. He has been a summer visitor to Chatham since 1990 and a summer resident since 2020. He particularly enjoys sailing, kayaking, and fishing on the Cape.He started volunteering as a docent at Chatham's Grist Mill in 2021. It seemed a good fit given his interests in history, engineering, sailing, and woodworking. His interest in the history of the mill led him to study all of its owners over the years. He was 'promoted' to re-enact Col. Benjamin Godfrey in 2023. Roald and his wife split their year between Chatham and Houston. They have three grown children.
