About Tuesday Talks: Lee Roscoe: Wampanoag Art for the Ages, Traditional and Transitional...From wetus to wampum to contemporary art Wampanoag Art for the Ages, Traditional and Transitional is the first book of its kind and was vetted by tribal elders. Come listen to Lee Roscoe speak about her new book and appreciation of Wampanoag culture. Lee Roscoe beautifully articulates the tribe's spiritual and material lifeways through their arts. She had access to the foremost creative artists thanks to her decades of involvement with the Wampanoag people on Cape Cod. The Martha's Vineyard Gazette, writes of the book: "the balance of text, testimony and pictures is perfectly struckā€¦That human element is the book's key stroke of genius." The book is an Eric Hoffer award finalist.

The lecture begins at 5pm and is held in the Mural Barn at the Atwood Museum located at 347 Stage Harbor Road in Chatham. Tickets are FREE for members and $10 for non-members. Please register online at chathamhistoricalsociety.org to reserve your seat.

There will be a Q&A after the talk, and Lee will sign and sell the book.

Bio:
Lee spearheaded the saving of 300 acres of land in Santuit, some sacred to the tribe. She organized 2,500 signatures in favor of the tribe's federal recognition and has written numerous articles about the tribe. She is a long time journalist, currently a correspondent for Artscope and Provincetown magazines. She has also written Dreaming Monomoy's Past, Walking its Present.

She's also is an awarded environmentalist and playwright. You may have heard or seen The Mooncusser's Tale, a Cape Cod radio drama or the play Impossible? about a tyrannical takeover of America, and you can view her Dreams from a Planet in Peril on Vimeo. A piece of it premiered at the prestigious Chelsea Film Festival, NYC. Cape Cod Museum of Art's director calls the film, "an important piece of art."
