About Provincetown Jazz Festival @ South Yarmouth...Shawnn Monterio
In the early 1970s while working at a club in San Jose, CA, vocalist and percussionist Shawnn Monteiro was discovered by Afro/Cuban jazz pioneer Mongo Santamaria. She joined his band for three years then launched her solo career focusing on her jazz roots. She settled down in Rhode Island and began touring nationally. Then her father, renowned bassist Jimmy Woode, introduced her to the European jazz community and she's never looked back. Since 1993, she has recorded seven albums as a leader or co-leader, toured throughout the U.S. and Europe, and even performed in Siberia! Shawnn is also a dedicated and beloved music educator who shares her artistry, techniques and knowledge with students all over the world. She has been an adjunct professor at Rhode Island College and the University of Hartford and has been teaching ongoing Master Vocal Classes in Rome and Genoa, Italy since 1995. Shawnn is a 2024 Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame inductee. Shawnn will be accompanied by Fred Boyle on piano, Ron Ormsby on bass, and Bart Weisman on drums.
Cape Cod Jazz Trio
Cape Cod Jazz Trio (CCJT) will open the concert with original compositions by Fred Boyle. The CCJT is comprised of three of Cape Cod's top Jazz Musicians with Fred Boyle on piano from South Yarmouth, Ron Ormsby on bass from Centerville, and Bart Weisman on drums from Orleans. The CCJT has accompanied vocalists Dane Vannatter, Siobhan Magnus, Cassandre McKinley, Tish Adams, Leslie Boyle, Lori Colombo, and Krisanthi Pappas. Since 2009, the CCJT has appeared at concerts, events, and restaurants across Cape Cod, including the Provincetown Jazz Festival, and off Cape Cod in Providence (RI), Nantucket, Plymouth, and Boston.
