About Documentary Screening: The Life and Times of Alice Stallknecht...Alice Stallknecht painted Chatham. Townspeople, birds, boats, and weathervanes were her inspiration. Fiercely independent, Stallknecht created a body of work that is unique but also earned her place amongst American Regionalist Painters. American Regionalism became one of the dominant national art movements in the 1930s. American Regionalism strived to represent the conditions of working class Americans.

With the start of the Atwood Museum's 2024 season, the Atwood Museum thought of no better way to celebrate than by collaborating with our neighbor, the Chatham Orpheum Theater, to showcase the most-represented artist in our collection: Alice Stallknecht. Come watch a fascinating, thoughtful, and informative documentary produced by the Atwood Museum. And come by any day this season to witness an impressive collection of her colorful works any Open day in our Stallknecht Mural Barn. We cannot wait to see you all there!
