Perched on a cliff above the Atlantic Ocean and boasting amazing views in almost every direction, Highland Light is a landmark not to be missed when visiting the Outer Cape region!
Built in 1857, Highland Light is the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Cape Cod. Its current location is not the original site. The structure was set back 450 feet in 1996 because beach erosion put it in danger of falling down the cliff. It is still operational and open to the public for tours from May to late October.
Also in the area is The Highland House Museum. Once the old Highland House hotel built on the Highlands in 1907, the structure now provides insight into the lives of early European settlers as well as the Native Americans who predated them. And if you’re in the mood to take a couple swings and remembered to bring your golf clubs, play a round at the Cape’s oldest golf course, Highland Links. Set high on windswept bluffs, the setting couldn’t be any more perfect!
