Description

Description

Located off State Road between West Tisbury and Vineyard Haven and nestled among the oaks and summersweet bushes directly beside Land Bank property, La Cachette is truly a hideaway for those seeking to get away from it all. La Cachette offers the ultimate in tranquility and privacy. You feel like you are miles away from civilization, yet you are only minutes away from fine dining and many other amenities. Best of all, La Cachette is located directly on Ice House Pond, a ten-acre, glacially formed kettle pond that once provided ice for much of the island. It is legendary for providing the finest freshwater swimming on the Vineyard. But if you crave the beach, you are only a mile away from Lambert's Cove Beach.

La Cachette has an interior size of approximately 1,200 square feet with four bedrooms and is suitable to accommodate two small families. Two of the bedrooms (a large master bedroom with a queen bed and a small bedroom with two twins) are located on the second floor. On the first floor are the living area and kitchen and two small bedrooms, each with twin beds. Each floor has a small bathroom with showers in each, but you may find yourself using the outdoor shower exclusively. Other amenities include a dishwasher, washer/dryer, cable TV, Internet, and a BBQ grill.

This is my family’s vacation home, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

    Peace, Serenity, and Offseason Swimming

I've been coming to the Island for 34 years, and stayed in many, many homes, but La Cachette has to be my favorite. The house is ideal: very comfortable with plenty of space and skylights in each bedroom on the top floor. But the real story is outside. Once again we took advantage of the spacious deck that overlooks Ice House Pond. We swam every day, even though our stay went into October! The water was crystal clear and clean, and a totally comfortable temperature (must have been nicely warmed up from the summer!). The outdoor shower after a dip in the pond is not to be missed! show more show less

My family bought this property in 2011 as a vacation getaway for ourselves. We bought the property from a family who owned several such properties on the pond as a sort of family compound (two are still in the family). We rent it out a few weeks a summer just to raise some money for the upkeep.

What is special about this property?
This is our slice of heaven. The greatest asset of this property is its location. It is nestled in the woods overlooking the great Ice House Pond. In fact, the property abuts the pond and has direct access to the pond. The pond is famous for its fresh water swimming. Ice House Pond was the source of ice harvesting in the early twentieth century and the ice house used to be located on our property. We love the peace and quiet (although the resident ospreys may give you an earlier wake up call than you may be used to :). It's a very cozy beach house and we deliberately kept it rustic as befits a summer cottage. In any case, you should be outside enjoying the Vineyard. We fell in love with details such as the wide pinewood boards that make up the floor and the trim around the windows.

What is special about your town?
While the property is located deep in the woods, it is located minutes away from West Tisbury's business district: Cronig's grocery store, Conroy Apothecary, and Martha's Vineyard Savings Bank are nearby. As our tenant, you have access to the town's Lambert's Cove Beach, which is ideal for young children but is super popular with all ages for its calm waters and soft sand. For dining, State Road restaurant, in my opinion the best restaurant on the island, is nearby as well as the charming Lambert's Cove Inn.

West Tisbury is equidistant to the main towns and the up island attractions. Being up island means you are in farm country, which means you are close to farm stands and the West Tisbury farmer's market.
