My husband and I have recently returned from our fifth visit to Martha's Vineyard in the past seven years and our annual stay at Elaine's beautiful squeaky-clean home there. We love this well-appointed home that is located in a very peaceful, quiet neighborhood amongst the oaks and pines away from the busy towns down island.
The home is extremely comfortable and spacious. We especially enjoy the open floor plan of the kitchen/living/dining areas on the first floor, the screen porch and deck. I love to cook even on vacation and the kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, dinnerware, flatware, cups, glasses, coffeemaker and blender and DISHWASHER! Nothing is lacking! There is a gorgeous wood-burning fireplace in the livingroom to stave off the chill of those September evenings we love so much. The outside deck faces a thick wood providing a layer of privacy, and is a great place to have a meal, enjoy a drink, take in the sun while laying on the chaise with a good book. The screen porch is a favorite of ours especially in mornings with a cup of coffee and on rainy days where I like to sit, meditate or just read and relax while rocking in one of the comfy rocking chairs. Speaking of reading, the owner has a few bookcases filled with an eclectic selection of good reads! There's also a TV and cable, wifi and internet for those who wish to stay "connected" during their stay. The half bath downstairs is very convenient and the full bath upstairs is very roomy with tub and shower. The den downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs are roomy and nicely decorated. Blankets, quilts are provided, but bring your own sheets and towels. The washer and dryer in the basement are new and a joy to have!! We love the craftsmanship of the woodwork and furniture throughout the home; just masterful!
The location is a bit remote in terms of location away from the busy down island towns, but is within a good walk of Ally's General Store in the heart of West Tisbury. There are a couple of MV Land Bank parks close by to enjoy a walk, bike ride or kayak. Sepiessa Point Reservation just down the main road from the house is one of our favorites for those purposes where trails lead to the Tisbury Great Pond; so beautiful. Bike trails in the state forest near the airport are very close by as well. For most anything else a car is definitely a necessity.
Over the years, we've come to refer to this special place as our "home away from home" and it truly is the way I feel about it. Elaine, the owner, is wonderful to work with, very communicative and helpful always and she cares that her renters have all they require. We're already looking forward to our visit next year and for years to come! Thanks again, Elaine, for sharing your home with us! show more show less
