"My friends and I had a girl's weekend at Dottie's and it was an awesomely pleasant trip. The home is warm and inviting, excellently furnished and decorated with comfortable coziness in mind. Its distinct beach/sea vibe and lovely porches are most welcoming. Of course, I have to mention the history of the neighborhood, where the quaint residences served as a gathering place for important figures in black history...Dorothy West and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. to name just two. Dottie's also offers everything a vacationer could want for an enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this little slice of heaven on Martha's Vineyard!" show more show less

This quaint cottage (historic home of prolific Renaissance Writer, Dorothy West) was the best STR space I've ever encountered. It was just enough and more than enough all at once. It's quietly located just off the beaten path, but close enough to walk to the marina and hub of town if you want to get steps in. My sister and I needed a place to retreat and write last fall, and this sweet cottage provided the perfect atmosphere. It's definitely a writer's paradise, but I can also imagine small family gatherings, couples retreating, and sister-circles bringing love and laughter as they cozy up in Dottie's House and on the front or back porch with a cup of Bustelo, a good book and the early morning dew. Maybe a glass of Sangue de Guida and smooth jazz in the evening, if that suits you. Yeah, you get the picture. It's the spot that takes you there to absorb what MV is historically made of that creates a deep longing to come back for more. show more show less

"The home was beautifully decorated and looked exactly as it did in the photos. Everything was clean and there were so many nice touches that made our stay extra special. The house was in close proximity to so many things. We didn't have a car and we were able to comfortably walk into town and to the Inkwell. We spent time on the front and back porch which was perfect for coffee in the morning and a great way to end our day. I can't say enough about our stay."

"We enjoyed staying at 'Dottie's place'. The house is very comfortable,  warm and aesthetically pleasing. The temperature control is a wonderful feature when it's humid. We really enjoyed relaxing on both the front and back porches. The house is well equipped with practically everything you can think of using. Walking to town is scenic whether you walk by the wharf or through the gingerbread cottages, and it only takes about 15 minutes. We look forward to returning. "
