Please note: during the key summer weeks, we are a SATURDAY - SATURDAY rental.
Endless water views, remodeled, fully updated, and steps from a sandy beach excellent for swimming, our walk-to-town home has been gorgeously redone, and designed with a simple yet sophisticated Martha's Vineyard-meets-California feel.
Airy and uncluttered, with central air-conditioning, and wide open ocean views, the home has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 9. We have the rare (in Oak Bluffs) benefit of being buffered by a generous lawn; so you can enjoy all the beach-going and socializing of Inkwell Beach and the Ocean Park/town & harbor of O.B. area, but with more breathing room.
Inside you'll find wide-plank pine floors, a kitchen with a cook's view to the sea, and pro-style appliances including: dishwasher, gas range, French door refrigerator with ice maker & filtered water, and a full-sized washer/dryer set apart in its own laundry room -- there's a back entrance here, off the wraparound porch, for easy access to, and from, the enclosed outdoor shower (outdoor shower is in addition to subway tile/glass door indoor shower). There is a king size bed in a larger than usual (for OB) main/primary BR. Plentiful seating inside at a large table, plus bar stools at the butcher-block topped island/bar area, as well as the spacious, level, wraparound porch (3-sided). You're perfectly situated for the annual fireworks, dining/coffee/cocktails outside, or just watching the world go by.
There are 4 updated and well appointed bedrooms -- one downstairs and three upstairs (including a very large bedroom that feels like two bedrooms joined, which has a queen & 2 twins -- the ''Oak Bluffs'' room). The second-story private deck off the primary (king bed) bedroom offers views of the ocean, as well as Farm Pond.
A second porch off of the second & third upstairs bedrooms also has ocean views. Two sets of French doors from the kitchen and dining area on the first floor open out to a larger portion of the deck (with BBQ and an outdoor table), and stunning ocean views. Another set of French doors opens from the dining area; a third opens to the long deck along the charming side-street.
The bathrooms are all updated: a tiled walk-in shower downstairs, a modern soaking tub (not a shower) upstairs, a separate water-closet on the main floor. Thus, to state it clearly: 1 indoor shower (+ sink) downstairs, 1 outdoor shower (the best!), 1 bathroom with a tub upstairs (with a toilet & sink). There is also a water-closet downstairs (toilet & small sink).
There's an open and connected feeling in the kitchen/dining/living room areas, and the multiple French double-doors connect it all to outdoor-living at its best. (There are a few steps up to the main entrance to the house, as well as another set that are great from when you’re coming back from the beach.)
Cross the road and go for a swim. Walk less than 10 minutes and you have your choice of restaurants & cafes -- you'll never have to search for a parking space to dine in-town in the high season. We're also walkable from the Oak Bluffs ferry docking (the Steamship Authority OB). And it's a very short distance (5 houses) to the lovely bike path that runs along the island's edge & sands of State Beach and into Edgartown. There is also a great park/playground/tennis & basketball courts (Niantic Park) nearby (another short and pleasant walk).
For rainy days and taking a break there are two TVs: 1 in the primary/main BR and another in the more casual section of the living room area.
Beds in total: 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, 1 full sized bed, and 2 twin beds.
Put another way, the sleeping spaces lay out like this:
- upstairs primary/main BR - 1 bed, King
- upstairs 2nd BR - 1 bed, Queen - this bed has a footboard
- upstairs 3rd BR - a ''pass thru'' large BR with 1 queen and two twins (twins are in their own area and what feels like their own room, but there is open space between this area and the area/room with the queen)
- downstairs 4th BR - 1 full (a.k.a. 'double') bed - this bed has a footboard
Also, please note that we are on a neighborly, family-friendly, and just generally friendly, street. While our house is further apart from others, it is still in a ''neighborhood'' of those summering nearby. We also own two smaller houses that neighbor the main house (but the dwellings, particularly the back house, are no closer than most in OB. You can see the one in the back in the overhead photo. The other one is ocean facing and essentially the house next door to the main house). They are completely separate homes, guests are carefully vetted, and especially if either home is owner-occupied, you'll gain the quietest, least-intrusive, most invisible neighbor(s) you could imagine (but with restaurant and beach recommendations, if you so desire!).
And, although you don't need a car for our area, if you'd like to bring one, we may have, in exchange for the cost we paid (no mark-up) TRANSFERABLE round-trip CAR-FERRY RESERVATIONS for key (still open) weeks of the summer. On-island auto rental is also an option. Best, of course, is to book your own auto-ferry reservation with The Steamship Authority in advance.
And our no-pets policy is firm; violating it, or housing more than 9 people/occupants, violates the lease.
Please also note: as with many rental homes on the island, you must provide your own linens (bed sheets & bath towels).
During the peak summer months this is a Saturday - Saturday rental (check in time is 4pm, check out time is 10am), though in the shoulder seasons (even June and end of August), some exceptions can be made, especially if it helps you get a car over to the island.
