My wife and I have been going to MV since we were in our late teens, both with our separate groups of friends. After becoming a couple in 1991, we shared many amazing and special times with our now larger group of friends. After 9-11, when our children were small, we felt that our kids needed to experience the joy and community of Oak Bluffs. We then began renting on the Island and stayed at a wonderful place on Chapman Ave. Each summer we grew to know more Islanders and began staying for a longer duration of time. Our boys loved the Island as much as we did so when we had he chance to buy our own place with a family member, we jumped! Five years ago, with our boys in pre-teen years, we needed autonomy AND a larger home closer to town. We were blessed to find 135 Circuit Ave in OB and we have loved her as much as she has loved us.
What is special about this property?
The cottage is of significant local history as it was used as a rooming house for people who could not secure homes in the campground. The den has many articles, books, and photos pertaining to the cottage and the former owners. The Leo Cottage has a great wrap around porch with two separate seating areas and a dining area for 5. The home has a wonderful backyard with a large table and a fantastic over sized grill. The cottage also has a large outdoor shower. One of the cottages' greatest assets is the location... literally 276 steps from downtown and less than 1/2 mile to Inkwell Beach. Walk to playgrounds, the dog walking park, numerous basketball and tennis courts, antique shops, art galleries, and local bars. If you need some exercise, the home is also close to walking/running trails that can be as short as 2 miles or lengthened to 5 or 6 miles. We have mapped these routes for our renters as well as provided bikes to tool around town.
What is special about your town?
As stated in the tourist information for OB:
Originally named "Cottage City", Oak Bluffs is a romantic Victorian seaside summer resort that has claimed the hearts and souls of visitors for more than a century.
Enjoy pristine beaches, a fabulous network of exquisite parks, a super fishing pier, historic attractions such as the famed Flying Horses carousel and the Cottage Museum in a setting filled with stunning Victorian mansions and charming Gingerbread Cottages. You can walk to EVERYTHING DOWNTOWN!
There are spectacular EVENTS that include "the best FIREWORKS in the world" and the truly unique "Illumination Night". Music, dining, dancing, concerts and lots of family FUN! The third week in August is the week of the OB fireworks. This coincides with the ''Grand Illumination'' and the annual Agricultural Fair in West Tisbury.
There are many art shows throughout the summer and live music events in the form of outdoor venues and live music at The Ritz most every night of the week.
The island's largest marina and destination for ferries from Falmouth, Woods Hole, Hyannis, Rhode Island, New Bedford and NYC is at the center of everything.
