    Perfect Vineyard Cottage

I stayed here with my two children. We absolutely adored the cottage! It is just the right size. Nobody felt cramped, and we had plenty of space to lay out and play card games, boar dgames, and do puzzles. We also appreciated the strong Wi-Fi signal. There is everything that you need in the kitchen to cook meals at home or pack picnics for the beach. The outdoor shower was greatly appreciated. And Nancy, the owner, was absolutely lovely and very accommodating. Lastly, we really appreciated having a washer and dryer. It made our stay so much easier. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a true Vineyard experience. show more show less

    Vintage Vacation

Huckleberry Lodge was a charming step back in time for our family. Our girls specifically chose this sunny cottage for its vintage charm and garden setting for our July vacation week. We love property with history, and you will find it here! It is homey, well loved, and just what we like!

This property is centrally located in Oak Bluffs- a short stroll to the MV transit bus stop, the island bike path, and walking distance to neighborhood beach at Lagoon Pond. We did bring our car as we felt it more convenient to get to all points of interest on our own schedule with teen daughters.

We found plenty of lounging, quiet space in and around the cottage. Lots of thoughtful touches; games for the kids, local brochures, menus, maps helped us make informed decisions. And our gracious host, Nancy, was helpful with all of our questions.

The kitchen was well stocked with all provisions needed for cooking and enjoying family meals in the large airy dining area. Washer/dryer and outdoor shower definitely a plus!

Definitely a sweet vacation spot for a small family in a great spot to get to all of the island's many attractions and hideaways. We hope to enjoy it again!

We love enthusiastic renters like this family! To clarify our location, we are in walking distance to Oak Bluffs but in a quiet, wooded neighborhood.

    Pleasant time at Huckleberry Lodge

We always have a pleasant stay at Huckleberry Lodge. Clean and quiet. I love the huge windows in the dining room and front room. The little touches of history here and there are a pleasant walk back in time.

    A charming, magical place

This was our fourth year of returning to this charming cottage, located on a quiet road very handy to town. The gardens and trees are beautiful, and the inside main room is screened in, so we feel as though we are surrounded by wildlife and singing birds. An added bonus is an outdoor shower. I could not imagine staying anywhere else on my summer vacation. We enjoy the proximity to the beach. It was perfect for us, both as a couple and again after our daughter was born.

I always look forward to returning to the cottage each fall. It's a great time of year to visit the Vineyard. The cottage is so cozy and quaint. I love looking out all the windows in the dining area and like sleeping in the upstairs bedroom. There is such nice attention to detail—-the ceramic tiles in the kitchen, the old photos on the walls, the Victorian touches.

I have been coming to the Vineyard since 1953, when my parents rented a small cottage near my present one. That was when I befriended Lilian Chignell, who lived in Huckleberry Lodge.

"Chiggie" was a former governess. She had her cottage built in the 1920s, and she began inhabiting it year round in the 1930s. We became lifelong friends, and she left her cottage to me when she died in 1974, at age 101.

I treasured my childhood summers on the island; so did my children and now my grandchildren.
My family and I occupy Huckleberry Lodge for most of the season. The cottage enabled me to expand my childhood roots, becoming active in the island art community.

What is special about this property?
I love the way Ms. Chignell added rooms over time. Huckleberry Lodge has whimsical charm, yet it is very comfortable. There are many windows. The beadboard walls and victorian trim evoke the gingerbread cottages of Oak Bluffs, yet our layout is more spacious and rooms seem to flow into each other. Furnishings include period antiques.

You will be treated to garden views from every room, and it is enjoyable to sit on our lawn or dine at our picnic table. The outdoor shower is spacious and lovely! We offer privacy and quiet. Birds and blossoming bushes and flowers.

What is special about your town?
Huckleberry Lodge is in a quiet neighborhood, with lots of privacy. It is a 20 minute walk to Lagoon Pond, and a 257 minute drive to Oak Bluffs. State Beach is a 20 minute drive. Bikers have easy access to trails.

Oak Bluffs has wonderful Gingerbread Cottages, shops, concerts, beaches and restaurants.
