Had enough of the beaches? Consider visiting some of the many art galleries on the Vineyard or steep yourself in its rich history. Open year round, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum offers a wealth of information about the Island’s unique history, culture and characteristics. Located in the heart of historic Edgartown, the Museum offers many exhibits and collections as well as special events such as tours of the historic and picturesque Edgartown, Gay Head and East Chop Lighthouses. Or stroll the numerous art galleries from up-Island in Chilmark and West Tisbury to the down-Island galleries in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Most are open both day and evening and offer exquisite displays of photography, watercolors, oils, fabric art and sculpture from both local and off-Island artists.
