Description

Description

This family friendly retreat is set at the end of a private drive on over an acre of rolling wooded land on the north shore of Aquinnah about a half mile from Gay Head Lighthouse. Set at the high point of the land, the home is a charming, sun filled 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath colonial with water views from the upper floor and deck . It offers ''upside down living'' with three bedrooms on the ground floor and living room on the second floor.

The ground floor bedrooms include: 1 king bedroom, 1 queen bedroom, and 1 bed room with twin beds. These are luxury plush mattresses with very comfortable linen and bedding. Perfect for a great night sleep at the end of a long day at the beach. The king bedroom has water views from the ground floor with a private deck. Also on the ground floor is the main bathroom with shower/tub and laundry closet with new washer and dryer. In the Fall of 2021, central AC was installed with individual climate control controls for each of the bedrooms as well as the upstairs living space.

The top floor offers unexpected water views of Vineyard Sound, Naushon Island, Pasque Island, Nashwena Island and Cuttyhunk Island. The deck is comfortably appointed with outdoor couch / chairs as well as a Teak dinner table and seating. The Weber gas grill with side burner is brand new and offers a searing station which is perfect for fish from the markets in Menemsha (or maybe your catch of the day from surf casting!) . At night the light from Gay Head Lighthouse can be seen in the sky above the house.

The second floor living room is sun drenched with a Pottery Barn sofa bed, Samsung television (Roku equipped) with high speed Wi-FI (included) as well plenty of board games and books to read and share (or bring your favorite).
Convenient access to the large upper deck is offered from two french doors. The dining table comfortably seats 6 adults . There is a half bath on the second floor.

The kitchen is well appointed with new refrigerator, new electric stove, microwave and Keurig coffee maker single serve and pot functions. In addition to place settings for 8 it is fully equipped for all your cooking and happy hour needs.

The yard is large and private (over an acre!) with a Breeo X series 24 inch smokeless fire pit which includes a sear plate (if you like cooking with a wood fire) which is great for burgers and steaks. Adirondack chairs around the fire pit are set to allow for incredible star gazing at night. There is a peach tree in the yard and we hope this may be the year it finally gives us some peaches (help yourself if it does)! A new outdoor Mahogany wood shower with changing room is located on the side of the house and is ready to wash away the sand on your way back from the beach.

Everything you need for the beach is here including: beach toys/shovels (approved by our kids for yours!), chairs, umbrellas and towels.

Speaking of the beach we are conveniently located to the spectacular beaches of Aquinnah including Moshup Beach (public parking available) and Philbin beach (parking permit available at the town clerk with rental agreement). These beaches are less crowded and a great place to relax with the family.

If privacy, sandy beaches, bike rides, bike ferries, great food, fresh seafood and sun sets on the beach are what you looking for, then you have found your destination!

    Fabulous vacation home!

We just finished up a week at Tashtego's Tree House and our stay was definitely one to remember! The location alone is so great; Aquinnah is our favorite part of the island and the house is very close to Gay Head Lighthouse and local beaches. The house is very comfortable; nice cushioned seating on the deck with water views as well as a nice teak dining set was the percent place to have morning coffee and also to relax after a day at the beach. The kitchen is well equipped; the Keurig machine also having a pot feature worked well for us. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept on at a rental and the bedding is very nice quality. The outside shower is spacious with strong water pressure. All these things added up to an amazing vacation in Aquinnah! We highly recommend staying at Tashtego's Tree House! show more show less

    Little Slice of Heaven

The view from the back deck is spectacular at all hours of the day and night, you really do feel like your in the treetops! We were there for the 4th and were too lazy to drive into town for the fireworks so we enjoyed the mainland fireworks from the back deck. So much wildlife and birds to enjoy and it's pretty quiet. The brand new grill and indoor amenities made cooking and grilling a breeze. Having an outdoor shower is essential for us and theirs was the best, very clean, large, private and had great water pressure. The house was clean from top to bottom, with nice furniture inside and beautiful deck furniture and landscaping outside. Very close to Lobsterville and Philbin beaches where we got a week pass. When you don't feel like cooking or driving too far, Gay Head Light is has some great little places for coffee and quick meals. We've been looking for a rental to go back to each year that 'checks all the boxes' and we have found it! show more show less

Aquinnah house! So much fun! Perfect evenings, breezy, sunset at The Cliffs, BBQ, watching the light house beams, looking for satellites in the night sky! Tashtego's Tree House is the best.

Exquisite House, Perfect Location, Heaven on Earth!

We spent a delightful week at Christina and Patrick's house in late June, and could not have chosen a better place.

The house is immaculate, impeccably furnished, and beautifully located near Gay Head. It is quiet and beautiful, well-lit and well-stocked, and the sheets on the beds are the most comfortable we've ever slept in.

Truly a special house on a special Island: we can not recommend it highly enough.

    Welcome to our home.
I grew up on the Cape just across Vineyard Sound in Falmouth. I always loved taking the ferry over to the Vineyard as a kid. There was something magical about that 45 minute ferry ride. It was a way to completely disconnect from everything on the mainland and to unwind. When Patrick and I met, one of our first trips together was to Martha's Vineyard. He quickly came to appreciate its charm and (eventually) asked me to marry him in Edgartown. While visiting the Island what we both loved most was the tranquility of up island life in Aquinnah, Menemsha and Chilmark. The secluded beaches away from the crowds, breath taking views and quaint villages were the perfect counter to our busy lives in Boston.
We dreamed of one day owning a home here.
Ten years, three kids and one pandemic later we made the plunge and now welcome you to our home.
We hope you, your family and friends find it to be as special as we have.
This home and its potential spoke to us from the moment we saw it. Its unexpected views invite reflection.
We look forward to welcoming you to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle to reconnect with your family and your self.

If privacy, sandy beaches, bike rides, bike ferries, great food, fresh seafood and sun sets on the beach are what you looking for,
then you have found your destination!

    Christina & Patrick

What is special about this property?
The home sits at the end of a 1/2 mile classic Martha's Vineyard single lane track that makes you wonder whats coming around the next corner. As you enter the drive way the thick woods give way and the house sits at the high point of the land along an old farmers stone wall. There is a peach tree (so we are told) in the center of the circular driveway. If you see a peach take one and take a picture too as we are still waiting to see one! The house was positioned on the high point of just over an acre of rolling wooded hillside. Someone long ago must have climbed a tree to realize water views are possible from the spot and as you climb to the second floor those unexpected water views are realized.

The home combines the best of privacy and seclusion with a water view. Our goal was to make this a place where we would feel comfortable with our friends and family. We have tried to make spending as much time outside for family gatherings and meals on the deck as easy and relaxing as possible .

Take advantage of the Breeo smokeless firepit (seriously...no smokey clothing or burning eyes!) and try the sear plate on the fire pit to sear great tuna, burgers, chicken or steak.

Definitely sit outside on the deck at night and star gaze. Most nights and especially if there is a bit of evening sea fog the lights of the Gay Head Light house silently and rhythmically sweep over the house.

What is special about your town?
Aquinnah represents a classic and simpler form of Martha's Vineyard. Away from the busy centers of Edgartown and Oak Bluffs this area is about privacy and seclusion. The town is small tight knit community where most folks know each other (or of each other). It is quite simply the perfect place to unwind. Whether that means: the soft sandy beaches, a long bike ride including the bike ferry in Menemsha, a run along Moshup trail at sunrise, a afternoon walk under the Gay Head Cliffs, sunset at the lighthouse, fishing or simply star gazing to name only a few, this is the place to be.

Aquinnah will satisfy the needs of those who want to be constantly on the go and those who want nothing more then time on the beach (or water views from our deck).

The food is excellent with small inns and bistros serving locally sourced fare (see our website for recommendations). If same day catch off the boat is what you are looking for the seafood markets of next door Menemsha are calling you (unless your going to catch your own surf casting at the beach!).

Although it is about 30-45 min from the Vineyard Haven ferry, as the roads narrow; the houses turn to farmland; and the sea comes ever closer you can feel yourself exhaling and realize the extra mileage was more then worth the trip.
