    Our Second Year!

The Cape has always been a family favorite over four generations. This is absolutely the most wonderful house we have had the pleasure to rent. It has plenty of space for our family of 12, ages 2 to 75. The yard and access to the private beach make this the perfect location… close to everything but completely private. The house is historic with historic quirks, rambling and beautiful. The owner is attentive, friendly and a pleasure to work with. Unpack and just breathe. You won't regret it!

We LOVED our stay at Jon's house. The house is perfectly located on the Bass River. The house was large for four families and more. We had plenty of space. The kitchen was well appointed and we loved the butler pantry to prep food and drinks. During the day we fished, made sand castles with the kids and BBQed on the gas grilled. At night, we made fires and roasted marshmallow in the outdoor fire pit. We loved giving the kiddies baths in the claw foot tubs. The lawn and gardens were well maintained. We loved so much and hope to make this a yearly trip. Thanks, Jon! show more show less

The home was as discribed, lovely refurbished Antique home with modern kitchen. Everything needed was available. The grounds were beautiful and easy ascess to the river, flowers were spread around the home to make you feel at home. We highly recommend this home for a large family reunion or just a great vacation.

I loved it. It was clean, the beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are numerous. There's plenty of parking. If you are new to the Cape, it's mid-cape location is an ideal starting point for explorations in either direction. If you brought a boat, there's a boat ramp at Smuggler's Beach, a half mile away, unless it's small enough to launch from the beach in front of the house, I guess. (I don't have a boat.) You can run out for groceries (or pretty much anything, really) and be back in 20 minutes. Anyway, we loved the place, all the guests loved it, and we had a wonderful time. (I could imagine living here. Yikes!) show more show less

Not a McMansion, but a lived-in home. A true beach house with a great waterfront location and comfortable living and sleeping spaces. Also perfect for people who like to cook: a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and a top of the line outdoor gas grill. There is a small private beach on Bass River and a 20-minute walk to a beautiful sandy beach on warm Nantucket Sound. Also fast WiFi and state of the art TVs with Xfinity DVRs. We shall return!

Jonathan Wood the owner/manager is retired and lives nearby on River Street. Five generations of his family have enjoyed this house on the river. Until recently the Woods lived in Aunt Mariah's house year-round and raised their three children here. The children are grown and married and have all moved fairly far away. Too much room for one couple! Therefore the weekly vacation rentals, for others to enjoy this fabulous property, wonderful river, charming village and warm, pristine Nantucket Sound. Come experience this, antique, fully modernized, waterfront gem.

What is special about this property?
Aunt Mariah's House has a beautiful sandy beach. It is the only substantial private sandy beach on the river between the route 28 bridge and the river mouth. Aunt Mariah's House occupies a spectacular location on the bank of the Bass River with a view across the river and marshes and the Sound all the way to Monomoy Island's dunes and sandy expanses twenty-five miles away, behind which the mighty Atlantic separates us from Europe. This is the main living quarters of Charles Henry Davis' famous nineteenth century ''House of Seven Chimneys''. The rich history of this house includes being moved by barge in the early 1800s from Nantucket to Cape Cod when it was already an elegant antique.

What is special about your town?
''Bass River'' is a small harbor and also the name of a village within the region of South Yarmouth in the town of Yarmouth (settled in 1639) on the charming, quaint peninsula that is Cape Cod. The mid-Cape region gives access to excellent restaurants, theaters, night life, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard ferries, fishing party boats, public beaches and the rest of all of the Cape.
