Description

Description

Beautiful modern masterpiece down a quiet street with quick access to Woods Hole, Shining Sea Bikeway, and the Martha’s Vineyard ferry. This architecturally significant house was designed by the renowned postmodern architect Charles Moore and built in 1969. An addition providing ample entertaining space - including a dining room, den, loft, and roof deck - was completed in 2021, along with top to bottom refinishing of all rooms. This house has mid-century charm in spades with all the modern conveniences.

The house offers 4 bedrooms each with a queen bed and private full bathroom, and each on its own level that provides ample privacy for those sharing this impressive house. The entrance opens into a foyer adjacent to an open concept kitchen with peninsula seating for 4. Continuing to the back of the house is a large dining room with a wet bar and custom designed dining table that comfortably seats 10, and can also function as a ping pong table (net, paddles, and balls provided!). Also on the main level is a full bathroom with shower stall, a laundry closet with washer and dryer, and the first bedroom. Adjacent to the main entrance, and three steps down, is a large bedroom with an en suite with shower/tub. Back in the kitchen, and past the coffee bar - complete with Jura espresso machine, drip, and Keurig - is another bedroom that is down one flight and is adjacent to another full bath with shower stall. The master bedroom is found upstairs, part of a 4 room suite that includes a sitting room with desk and loveseat, designer bathroom, and a built-in twin sized day bed - perfect for younger ones.

Three staircases lead to the second floor (also a catwalk away from the upstairs bedroom) which offers plenty of room for your group to spread out: whether it’s reading a book at the cozy living room window seat while listening to the console record player, catching up on your streaming in the den, playing a game in the breakfast room, finishing a puzzle in the loft which includes a futon couch (up a spiral stair), or enjoying the roof deck (accessible via ship’s ladder) with panoramic views of Martha’s vineyard and surrounding waters. Adjacent to the den are bookcases full of games and books for your enjoyment, and a powder room. Additional outdoor space is off the main entrance: a lit peastone patio with outdoor table seating for 4 and a pair of Adirondack chairs to relax in. An outdoor shower rounds out the exterior amenities.

The house is equipped with three zone central air conditioning, 4K streaming Roku TVs in each bedroom, high speed internet, and a fully equipped kitchen that includes microwave, dishwasher, and 5 burner gas range. An outdoor 50 amp outlet is available for charging your electric vehicle. Linens are included.

The neighborhood is quiet with minimal street traffic but provides quick and easy access to all that you want from your Cape vacation: a 4 minute walk (2/10 mile) to the Shining Sea Bikeway, 10 minute walk (1/2 mile) to downtown Woods Hole, 12 minute walk (6/10 mile) to the Martha’s Vineyard Ferry, a 7 minute bike ride to Surf Drive beach via the Bikeway, and a 7 minute drive to downtown Falmouth.

The house, the common areas, and bedrooms are split on several levels with many stairs leading between, and may not be optimal for young children or those with limited mobility.

    Fantastic house

Our multigenerational family spent the week here and enjoyed every minute at this well equipped and pristine house. Everything was perfect from the pinball machine on the 3rd level to the chef's kitchen. There are many gathering places along with private areas for a large family to stretch out in. The house is convenient to everyplace in the Falmouth/Woods Hole area. Truly a 5 star house.

    Great rental

We have rented in WH for many years and this is one of the nicest houses we have ever stayed in (in WH, or elsewhere in fact). Location is great for walking into town, to the beach, or to the bike path. It is nice and quiet. The house itself is literally incredible: well furnished, appliances all awesome, each room with its own great TV and all streaming providers accounted for, all very comfortable, very contemporary. We feel more stylish having stayed there! Also, and perhaps most importantly, the dining room table doubles as a ping pong table. Cannot do better on WH market at the moment. show more show less

This is a gorgeous house with an unusual number of options for gathering and also for separate activities. There's nothing like coffee with the sun pouring into the "breakfast room." We enjoyed the ping pong table and bowling game. The neighborhood is quiet and it's a short walk to town and also close to the water. The amenities are high quality. The owners could not have been more responsive.

This is an absolutely gorgeous new house that comfortably accommodates at least 6 adults. Beautifully appointed, it has many unique design features and cool places to hang out away from the main living spaces. Everyone that stayed there was by blown away by the design and ascetics. The location is quiet and convenient. Matt is a great host - responsive and flexible. I totally recommend this property to anyone who wants to stay in the area, including those needing to be close to the local research institutions. show more show less

This house is AMAZING! Words probably won't do it justice. You just need to experience it. It's super spacious, exactly as described, extremely clean, well stocked kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and board games/activities for all. My entire family was in awe and everyone enjoyed exploring the house and it's unique architecture. Also great communication by the host. You couldn't ask for a better place to create memories on the Cape!

This house is owned by two sisters, Elena and Melissa, with their husbands Matt and Phil. Melissa & Elena have visited Falmouth and Woods Hole for nearly their entire lives, visiting Grandparents - Granny and Johnny - who lived nearby in Falmouth. Woods Hole has served as a spot for yearly vacations for our extended family, a tradition that has continued beyond the passing of the beloved Grandparents who started it.

What is special about this property?
The house was originally built in the late 60s for a Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute faculty member by Charles Moore, renowned as the father of postmodern architecture. More recent additions have expanded the house, providing ample common space for families and groups to get together to complement the four bedrooms, each situated in their own part of the house, and each with access to their own private full bath. To complement the large dining room, family room, and kitchen, are smaller spaces throughout - including the living room with the impressive window wall, breakfast room and loft with birds-eye view of the surrounding area, and sitting areas in the master suite. The roof deck and patio provide two great outdoor spaces for your group to enjoy. This is a very unique house that you will not soon forget, in a location perfect for your next Cape vacation.

What is special about your town?
Our house is set on a hill in a small neighborhood with minimal street traffic, perfectly situated with easy access to the bike path, beaches, and Woods Hole - all within a short walk. This location, along with what Falmouth and Woods Hole provide, offer great opportunity for a well balanced Cape vacation in any season! In addition to the standards - the picturesque (and practical, connecting Woods Hole with the Beaches, downtown Falmouth, and North Falmouth) Shining Sea Bikeway and Falmouth's public and private beaches, the Knob, Highfield Hall & Gardens, Bebe woods, and Spohr provide other nearby outdoor activities. Walking distance to Woods Hole provides an easy way to enjoy the shops, restaurants, bars, and Martha's Vineyard.
