Description

Description

This is the most dramatic location in Wellfleet, on the bluff with your own very short path to the sandy, swimmable beach and Wellfleet Harbor. 'Fairwinds', an architect-designed contemporary house is furnished for comfort and elegance. You'll have views of the Bay and harbor from almost every room. With walls of glass the beauty of the Cape--and its incomparable light--is always with you. The house has an open, easy flow and newly refinished wood floors throughout. The furniture is comfortable with several couches for easy living. At a table in the front of the house diners have constant views of the water, sky and town as sailors glide in and out of the harbor and fishing boats bring in their catch. Shop in Wellfleet's fine art galleries, good food shops, and, of course, get fresh seafood and vegetables to cook at home or treat yourself to our great restaurants. It is about a 15 minute walk along the marsh to Uncle Tim's pedestrian bridge which deposits you in town. At sunset--and there are no more majestic sunsets anywhere--lower the deck umbrella and relax.Perhaps bar-b-que on the Weber gas grill while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of Wellfleet Harbor, or choose from many local excellent restaurants. In the Fall light a fire in the fireplace, use the DVD, or enjoy the moonlight. The glow of lights on the water is magical. Strolling on the beach is a delight, day or night. When it's time for bed head upstairs to the Master Bedroom with its own fireplace, but take a quiet moment to step out on the upper deck for a view of the near-by stars and the lighted steeple of the Congregational Church.
Other amenities: Wi-Fi. Zoned air-conditioning systems with individual thermostats cool and dehumidify the house. Professionally cleaned, freshly painted, brand new King mattress in master bedroom, new duvets, pillows and mattress pads. Newer hot-water system just installed. Swim in the near-by fresh-water ponds, great for families, or ocean, bring kayaks and put in at our Bay beach, stroll or swim in front of the house, walk a few minutes along the shore to Uncle Tim's Bridge and town. Three-zoned heating and two fireplaces to make the house toasty in winter. A jewel of a house in the perfect location.

    Great time at Fairwinds

We had a great time at Fairwinds. First, the view – lots of big windows look over the harbor, as do the two decks. The view is amazing, between the birds, the sailboats and kayaks in the harbor, and the glorious sunsets! We enjoyed spying cardinals and other birds on the deck. This was the first time we stayed right on the harbor. We took leisurely walks over Uncle Tim's Bridge to Wellfleet Center, to spend time in the art galleries and shops, to pick up a few groceries at the market, and of course eat on the pier and in the restaurants. The house was a treat on both sunny and rainy days. There's original artwork, and plenty of room to either spread out or to gather – two decks, three dining tables, two full sofas. The furniture is very comfortable and in great shape. The kitchen was well equipped with anything we needed, so we also enjoyed meals at the house. Plus, we appreciated the owners' offer of a bottle of wine or two during our stay! The owner Kathy was very responsive to questions. We had a couple small issues, which she dealt with quickly – we were very satisfied. All in all, a great week –Fairwinds is lovely and I can't recommend it more highly! show more show less

    Fairwinds - Wellfleet

This is our second summer staying at Fairwinds. The house has absolutely beautiful views of Wellfleet harbor and gorgeous sunsets to enjoy right from the deck! The location is very convenient - at low tide you can walk into Wellfleet town center along the beach or at any time it's a short drive/bike into town, to the beaches and the kettle ponds. The house is well appointed (the pictures accurately depict the house) and has a ton of amenities from bikes and beach chairs to a well stocked kitchen. Kathy and Matt are lovely hosts who seem to have thought of everything you might want upon arriving on vacation (which means you know there is going to be extra propane for the grill and extras of all of those things you are never sure about with a rental - hand soap; dish soap; paper towels, etc.) and are very reachable via email/text/phone. I would highly recommend a stay at Fairwinds - we definitely plan to return again! show more show less

    A Wellfleet Treasure!

Words like "Amazing!" and "Awesome!" don't begin to describe our recent experience at Fairwinds. Former long-time Massachusetts residents, we came up from Florida to spend two weeks on Cape Cod with family members who still reside here (our daughter, son-in-law, and the world's best 2-year-old granddaughter!). The home was even more than we hoped for when we saw the pictures and read the online description. Absolutely beautiful setting, and extremely well-appointed with household goods.

Our granddaughter had the time of her life on the lower deck watching birds, bunnies, chipmunks, and even a huge Tom turkey visit the yard. A very short walk down a path took her to a beach with gentle waves, sand-castle sand, horseshoe crabs, fiddler crabs, minnows, and nice breezes for kite-flying. She also loved watching the boats go in and out from the town pier. We adults loved all that too, plus the beautiful views, ocean breezes, gorgeous sunsets, and star-filled nighttime skies. We also often noted how really, really quiet it was! Many nap-time afternoons were spent on the upper and lower decks reading and soaking up sunshine. And yes, the grown-ups napped too!

And what a convenient location: right on the beach. But just a short drive took us to Marconi Beach for the "big waves" and seal viewing, or to First Encounter Beach for sunset walks and photos. We split our meals between eating at home and sampling Cape Cod food places, all of which were a short drive away. Eating at home was easy. Plenty of dishes, glassware, flatware, platters, utensils, and so on. The Webber grill made me BBQ legend in the family! And whether we ate inside or outside, the views were always spectacular. When we wanted to go out, just a few minutes in the car took us to full breakfast or just coffee and donuts, as well as to wonderful lunch and dinner spots like the Bookstore, Mac's Shack, Moby Dick's, PJ's, and lots more.

We were all absolutely thrilled with our stay at Fairwinds in Wellfleet, and hope to make this a recurring experience for our family. Thank you so much Matt and Kathy for making this experience available to us.

Why look anywhere else? This is PARADISE!

Fairwinds is the first place we've rented--and we've rented a LOT of places whether on the Cape or internationally (remember when we traveled internationally?) -- that feels like our home away from home. We would happily spend as much time here as possible, although that might mean less time for the actual owners!--who, by the way, were easily accessible and able to answer any questions we had (and their house tips handbook is one of the best-organized resources we've seen). We spent our time there exuding sighs of contentment as we took in the view-whether of the harbor or of the many birds we tried to identify on the Merlin app, and we can't wait to return.

Another testimonial: we have several close friends who own houses on the outer Cape (one of the reasons we like to visit!) who came over for meals because we had been waxing so eloquent about how spectacular this property is...and not surprisingly, they, too, fell in love with Fairwinds. A huge thanks to Kathy and Matt for sharing their home with us. We are already counting the days until next summer.

40 years vacationing in Wellfleet; best views ever.

Thank you again for sharing your lovely home with our family. We enjoyed having a great space for all of us to gather, share meals, and play the wonderful games you have for guests. The decks were perfect for outdoor dining, jaw-dropping sunsets, and star-gazing. The secluded beach was wonderful for our two year old grandson who took delight in the fiddler crabs and beach combing with his grandpa. As it has been for the past few years, the weather was quite hot and humid, so having a house with air conditioning is key to enjoying a vacation. We also enjoyed watching the wildlife: hawks, ospreys. seals, all kinds of gulls and seabirds. It's like Wild Kingdom!

COVID has changed Wellfleet; the first week was much more quiet than we've ever seen. It was no problem to make a left turn onto Rt. 6 at any time of day (the second week got a little busier). The businesses have instituted social distancing rules and mask requirements, and thankfully, everyone was complying. Let's hope a safe and effective vaccine is on the not-too-distant horizon.

    Perfect View

We loved this house with the most perfect view of Wellfleet Harbor. I mean it REALLY is perfect. The house is great, too, but it's all about the view, which is fully visible while sitting inside on the sofa as well as outside on either the balcony or the patio. The boats going back and forth entertained us for days on end, and we were on the patio pretty much from waking up until after dinner. We cooked more than we usually do on vacation, and the kitchen is very well stocked with any possible pan, plate or spice available. The owners are easily accessible via text should you need anything, but you probably won't. They've thought of all the little details that make a vacation rental comfortable and pleasant. We are already talking about whether we might try to go back in September or October, so it's a hit with us. show more show less

    Fairwinds, a special place

We have been coming to Fairwinds for many years, and can't think of anywhere we'd rather be! The views are spectacular and the house is lovely, comfortable, and clean with all the amenities you would want in a vacation home. The owners are super responsive and helpful. You would be lucky to stay here.

    Extraordinary, gorgeous home!

This may be the perfect vacation home. We loved it, inside and out!

Best bits: the wall of windows that look out onto the harbor, the pleasant nature walk to Wellfleet, the quiet, the wildlife in the air and water, the activity on the pier. You are close to the middle of things, but far enough away for privacy and quiet when you want them.

This home is tastefully decorated and well-equipped. The airy interior architecture feels sunny at all times. The place was spotless when we arrived and delightful for our two weeks there. There was room for us to spread out as well as plenty of time spent together playing board games or reading in the open-plan living room with spectacular views of the harbor.

Our hosts were kind and gracious when we had to make a special request.

Bring your binoculars or borrow the hosts' because there was plenty of bird watching (cormorants, loons) and sea life (seals, sunfish) to keep us jumping up and calling everyone to take a look.

    We will be back!

    Great Cape House!!!

This is a great place to stay for a week in Wellfleet. Gorgeous water views from all over the house. Easy to get to Wellfleet Center, beaches, lakes, and bike trail. Fully outfitted kitchen and beautiful outdoor eating area are especially good features since we wanted to have dinner at the house every night to see the sunset over the water.

    The best

I have been coming to Wellfleet for 30 years. I have rented many places, some better than others. I have not enjoyed myself as much as I did last week at Kathy’s place overlooking the harbor.

I was not sure what to expect. Pictures just don’t do it justice. The vibe was relaxed, welcoming and comfortable. The views were amazing. We were made to feel welcome.

The rooms were lovely, neat as a pin. The view from the main level sitting room was the greatest. The grounds were beautifully maintained by the gardener who came by on Wednesday.

We love to visit the Beachcomber, Winslow’s and the Bookstore. All were a 5 minute drive.

We took advantage of the lovely deck and small beach. I simply can’t say enough about this vacation.

Can’t wait to get back next summer.

I'm Kathy and my husband Matt and I have been the owners of Fairwinds since 2016 after renting from Toni and David for many years. If you're previous renters, know that Toni wishes you well with many happy returns to Wellfleet! We live in Connecticut much of the year so will be using the house ourselves and sharing it with all of you too. We are lucky enough to have kept many of the house's distinctive works of art and are adding to it from our travels around and beyond the Cape. It will continue to be furnished and maintained to the highest standards, ideal for multi-generations, clean and comfortable for families with kids while still being elegant and relaxing for adults. Wellfleet is one of our family's favorite places and we hope it will be your's too!

What is special about this property?
Our house has a location which is extraordinary. It sits on a low bluff, overlooking Cape Cod Bay, Wellfleet Inner and Outer Harbors, Indian Neck, Great Island and Lieutenant's Island, so sunsets are not to be missed. We face due West and cocktails and oysters on the deck at sunset are our favorite time. We can swim, sail and kayak right in front of our house, but if you like fresh water, the Wellfleet Ponds are gorgeous. They are really fresh-water lakes, and some, five minutes from the house, are quite large lakes. And there's the ocean, the National Seashore, the Audobon Society, the Theater known as W.H.A.T. We love the local fish and shellfish, and being with family who rent other houses within a minute or two of us. Our house is ideal for six or seven people, and even has a spot for a person who can't handle stairs. We have WiFi. We also have three-zone heating, and summer air conditioning. There is an outdoor shower for after the beach, and access through the lower level where towels and bathing suits can be hung. For winter renters we have two functioning fireplaces and provide firewood for our guests. A Blue House Book is crammed with suggestions of places to eat, things to do and useful services. We keep it up-to-date and add favorites, from us and guests, each time we are there.

What is special about your town?
It was love at first sight when we walked in the door and saw the view and when we said ''if you ever decide to sell, please tell us'' we never expected it to actually happen...but here we are! If you've been to Wellfleet before, you know how unique it is and if you're a new visitor, you're in for a treat. The restaurants and art galleries are welcoming and wonderful. There's fine dining for adults and excellent casual choices for families who come right from the beach. The Library is a perfect place to go when it's raining and has programs for kids and a full schedule of lectures for adults. The town is ideally situated to take advantage of the wonders of the Cape. You can find 3 different types of swimming areas, the famous fresh-water Kettle Ponds, like Gull Pond, which are really sizable lakes, the Cape Cod Bay beach in front of our house, and all the ocean beaches which are a 5 minute drive away. The Cape Cod Bike Trail is nearby and you can walk to Town from the house along the shore, crossing the lovely wooden footbridge called Uncle Tim's Bridge. And don't miss the Wellfleet drive-in just down the road, one of the only ones left in the country!
