Description

Description

Our house is situated at 180 Kendrick Ave, overlooking the stunning Wellfleet Bay. Step outside, and you're just 100 feet away from the warm sands of Mayo Beach. Wellfleet is renowned worldwide for its mouthwatering oysters and charming art galleries. The village has preserved its historic, quaint, and cultural atmosphere, free from fast-food chains, boardwalks, or video arcades. Instead, you can enjoy hiking, golfing, biking the famous Cape Cod Rail Trail, kayaking, birdwatching, sailing, fishing, weekly Wellfleet square dancing, and so much more. A local take on fast food? A steaming cup of Wellfleet Clam Chowder! (Our kids have been coming here since birth, and they still love it!)

Come to Wellfleet and experience the charm of ''Real Cape Cod''! You’ll be within walking distance of many local attractions, including the village, town wharf, galleries, pickleball courts, playground, skateboard park, summer playhouse theatre, and more. Just a short drive away, you’ll find the ocean, ponds, bike trails, hiking trails, golf, a winery, kayaking, shell fishing, and so much more! Even during the busy summer traffic, we can easily reach the ocean or ponds in just five minutes without taking Route 6. Our house is conveniently located, allowing us to cross Route 6 or head into town without the hassle of traffic.

Provincetown is about 20 minutes away and offers shopping, whale watching, and dune buggy rides. Orleans and Chatham are also charming towns, both roughly 20 minutes away as well!

Wellfleet isn’t just stunning in the summer—visit during winter, spring, or fall to experience its unique seasonal beauty. The weather is often gorgeous, there are fewer crowds, and you can enjoy various local festivals held across the Cape during these times.

This Mayo Beach house offers 5 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a living room, and a dining room that seats 8. Most of the living space is on the first floor, with a queen bedroom, a half bath, and a balcony on the second floor. Relax on the balcony with your morning coffee while watching local fishermen tend to their oyster beds.

The outdoor courtyard features a gas grill, lobster cooker, and outdoor shower. The front yard has a picnic table and chairs, perfect for gathering under the shade tree. Located right across the street from Mayo Beach, the house is within walking distance of the recreation center, restaurants, the town pier, and Main Street.

This fully equipped home includes a kitchen, washer and dryer, internet, and cable TV. It’s ready for any season, with central heating and air conditioning, as well as a working fireplace. There’s parking for at least four cars and storage space for a kayak.

Barry is a 4th generation ''Wellfleetian'' and has a lot of related family that are involved with businesses tied to Wellfleet. He lived in Wellfleet until he was 5 and while he moved 100 miles from Wellfleet, he spent summers on the Cape until he entered the Air Force in 1969. As an Air Refueling tanker pilot, he flew 88 combat missions during the Viet Nam War. After getting out of the Air Force in 1974, Barry and his wife Marie settled in the Washington, DC area where he worked as an IT analyst for the Commerce Department and the US Army at the Pentagon for 20 years. During that time, he purchased a mobile home in the adjacent park that his grandfather started in the 1950's. He and Marie and their two daughters spent their summers in Wellfleet even after the girls went off to college.

What is special about this property?
The house was built in 1953 by Barry's grandfather. Barry's aunt and uncle and 6 cousins occupied the house until it was sold in 1983. It was sold to a couple from Connecticut for use as a summer residence. In 2009 the house was sold to a family from New York. They used the house as a rental and for personal use. Barry bought the house in 2018 and kept it as a rental. In 2019, he added the upstairs bedroom and half bath. The deck offers a sweeping view of the harbor with its beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Sit on the balcony and enjoy the view with your morning coffee. The combination of queen beds, twin beds and bunk beds provide a variety sleeping options. It is literally steps to the beach, or a short walk to the playground offering a skateboard park, pickle ball and a host of other things to do. Continue on and you are at the pier, restaurants, boat rentals gift shops. Don't stop now, and you are halfway to Mainstreet Wellfleet.

What is special about your town?
During Barry's early years, the town was known as a fishing village with numerous scallop and clam trawlers and oyster beds. Since then, the harbor has given way to pleasure boats and the shell fishing is predominantly aquaculture of the famous Wellfleet oysters. Each fall the town in flooded with tourists to celebrate a weekend, Oyster Fest. The town swells to over 30,000 people to taste oysters prepared in a variety of ways. The town now boasts gift shops, art galleries and restaurants. The house is situated where you can walk to town and these shops and attractions. With the recreation center just up the street, both children and adults can enjoy skateboarding, pickle ball as well as musical events and other outdoor entertainment. During July and August, the town hosts square dancing on the pier,
