Description

Description

Perfectly located on the bay of Paine Hollow and Blackfish Creek, our home offers panoramic waterfront views and a private, peaceful retreat. Whether you spend the day at home, on a beach walk, or visit the many surrounding trails, you'll love our home-away-from-home and all that Cape Cod has to offer.

About our house
Our hilltop location and large windows allow visitors to see the tops of trees and the tidal bay underneath, creating the impression of looking out from a tree house. From forests of native pitch pine to starry skies at night, nature will surround you during your vacation. Inside, you will notice abundant natural lighting, original art, and a mix of modern, antique, and mid-century furniture pieces. Our home has one story, allowing for ease of access across the home and deck. Our home was designed by Olav Hammerstrom, a renowned mid-century architect featured in ''Cape Cod Modern,'' which highlights architecturally exceptional homes nestled amongst the beauty of the Cape landscape.

The perfect layout
Our home opens to a large bluestone foyer with instant dramatic views and access to our expansive deck. To the right of the foyer, is our open dining & living space, dramatic vaulted ceilings with extra large picture windows overlooking the bay. Inviting and comfortable, the open space is a perfect venue for games, movies, relaxing or dining. The original designer's kitchen is separate from the dining area, with sleek dark birch cabinetry, white counters, and all the essentials to make meals, snacks and cocktails. For convenience, the kitchen offers a separate entry door, helpful for dropping off groceries!

The left side of the home features a primary wing with a hallway leading to a full bathroom and primary bedroom with a king-size bed, vaulted ceiling, and incredible water views. This room includes a built in desk with drawers, a large closet, armoire, and a TV. Off this hallway is an office/library with a pullout sleeper sofa/full and desk. The left wing of the home also leads to our bonus TV/room with two bedrooms and a bathroom attached, one with twin beds and one with a full bed. All bedrooms feature a built in desk with drawers and a large closet with shelves.

The expansive deck is a favorite feature of this home and is a living space all on its own. With comfortable Brown Jordan seating for 6 (including 2 loungers), you may feel you never want to leave. The space was designed for the enjoyment of the surrounding nature, but also convenient for dining, morning coffee, or even spraying off sandy feet after a fun day at the beach.

Amenities
Our home has a brand new multi-zone air conditioning system for hot days, large vertical windows for breezy cool days and we also have fans available in every room. We offer hi-speed Internet WiFi, Smart or Roku TV's including Netflix, HBO and others, and. Our home has a laundry room off the left wing hallway with a washer & dryer. We will have a gas grill on the front stone patio for our guests.

Great Location
Baker Road is on the Bay Side of the Cape, Paine Hollow Road, Route 6 and very near LaCount Hollow Road which takes you to the ocean side of the Cape. Our home is above Blackfish Creek/ Paine Hollow waters and steps from the marked trails of Fox Island Marsh Land Trust Conservation Area, Whale Bone Point, Pilgrim Spring Woodlands Conservation and accessible via neighborhood roads or the beach to Drummer's Cove trails. Our house is near the many Atlantic dune beaches, freshwater ponds, Cape Cod National Seashore, The Cape Cod Bike Trail, unique shops, art galleries, a public playground, the Wellfleet Town Pier and the historic Wellfleet Drive-In Movie theater.

Beach/Cove Information
Meander down to Blackfish Creek's/Paine Hollow's cove beaches below via marked nearby trails to Whale Bone Point access. Paine Hollow Landing is walk or drive from our house, about .5 miles. Like much of Wellfleet, our bayside has sandy cove beaches and marshes. Hermit & horseshoe crabs, fish, and birds may be visible while walking along the beach and trails in the area. A dream home for a dream vacation

We have been vacationing on the Lower and Outer Cape for over 20 years, and have rented vacation homes from Chatham to Orleans, from Wellfleet to Truro. While many of the rentals were charming, none of them came close to this beautiful waterfront home overlooking Paine Hollow Bay in Wellfleet.

The spacious floorplan is beautifully designed to allow a private space for guests or children (we asked our 30-somethings to join us for the weekend). The beds, the living room sofas, and easy chairs were all extremely comfortable and of top quality with several antiques and vintage pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. We enjoyed the tasteful original paintings in several rooms, a welcome change from the Cape Cod souvenirs and fake lobster traps that adorn so many corporate rentals. This is a gorgeous home designed and appointed with care.

Guests can enjoy coffee and toasted bagels outdoors on the large deck overlooking the bay, before heading out to golf, beach, or sightseeing. The incredible views are not limited to the deck; the architect incorporated large windows in the bedroom, living room, and office that extend the rooms into the Cape Cod scenery. The kitchen is well-equipped and the formal dining area offers plenty of room for a family dinner. I appreciated the high-speed internet service, modern large-screen TV, and streaming services that the owners share with renters for no additional charge.

Our personal interactions with the owner were always warm and extremely helpful. After a week at this lovely home, we returned more relaxed and refreshed than we can remember following any previous vacation. We hope our schedules line up to allow us to revisit this incredible home in the future! Our thanks to the owners for all their efforts to make our vacation getaway unforgettable.

Between the many tidal coves of the bay and the crashing Atlantic Ocean, my family fell in love with this spot of South Wellfleet, over 60 years ago. My grandmother Edith, a landscape artist, was inspired by the views, the nearby ocean, and the Wellfleet creative artist community. She and my grandfather Art made this area their summer retreat and eventually their full time home. My parents chose an adjacent plot and built this home in the 70's, taking advantage of the modern and innovative architectural themes here on the cape. Countless summers, long weekends and Thanksgiving holidays have been enjoyed here . We continue to enjoy all that the seasons have to offer. Every season seems to be my favorite!

We are happy to answer any questions about the area, what we have loved doing, restaurants, takeout ideas, great walks, beach sticker information or where do we keep the platters!

What is special about this property?
This home was built by renowned architect Olav Hammerstom around 1976. On the edge of Mid-Century Modern style with huge picture windows, overlooking Paine Hollow and Blackfish Creek, it's a very special home on over 3 acres of property. The home layout is perfect. An open living and dining space with a separate kitchen, a wing for guests or kids, and a primary wing. With the home on a hill top, one could get distracted with the changing light & tides, almost entranced by the artistic views, truly a rejuvenating and relaxing location. If you look out, at low tide, you will see the Oyster farmers doing their days work, thus inspiring the name, Oysters on the Bay. Although calm days are a vision, windy days are my favorite. I open up all the vertical windows throughout the home, and enjoy the cool or warm breezes sweeping through, as if right at the ocean. Another feature of this property is its proximity to so many walking trails, down quaint residential roads, or walking along the tidal beaches you can really enjoy all that the cove side landscape has to offer.

What is special about your town?
The Wellfleet area is so much more than a small town, rather a small town surrounded by coves, ocean access points, bike trails, nature preserves and is rich in history. It is not a mystery that so many writers, artists, crafters and alike found Wellfleet a captivating and inspiring location for their home and still do. The flea markets, farmer stands, the famed Drive-in, Cape Cod Bike Trail, the Atlantic ocean, gift shops, restaurants, bakeries, the Wellfleet Town Pier….there is a lot to eat and to do! Plus, Wellfleet is only a 17 mile drive to Provincetown and 11 miles to Orleans, if you need a big grocery shop. It feels very central!
