Welcome to Thalassa Cottage, your home near the sea!
We believe our home is the perfect summer rental! It sleeps 12, so you can have lots of friends or family with you. It’s a short distance from the beach or shops, but far enough from the hubbub to let you really “get away from it all.” It features a large deck for relaxing in the sun & a big common room downstairs for everyone to hang out in. And it has central A/C to keep you cool on those hot summer nights!
The house has four bedrooms, all on the upper floor. The northwest bedroom has a queen bed and a twin trundle. The southwest bedroom has a twin-over-full bunk bed. The northeast bedroom has two twins. The southwest bedroom has a twin-over-twin bunk bed and a full bed.
There is a full bathroom on the upper floor, as well as a washer and dryer for laundry. A beautiful deck runs around two sides of the upper floor, accessible from the northwest bedroom, the southwest bedroom, the hallway of the upper floor, or from stairs on the outside of the house.
The ground floor features a large common room with plenty of seating and a big dining table. A sun porch runs along one side of the common room. There is also a fully-equipped kitchen and a half bathroom. Outside, we have a classic Cape-Cod-style outdoor shower for rinsing off after strolling back from the beach.
The house is located on the dead end of a private street, which means we have plenty of parking. You can fit at least four cars on the paved area at the end of Hiram Hill Road.
Want to work (or school) from the Cape? Never fear – we have great wifi! We have had multiple people working from Thalassa at one time, with no issues.
IMPORTANT NOTE! We provide bathing towels, beach towels, kitchen towels, blankets, and pillows. We DO NOT PROVIDE sheets and pillowcases. You will need to either bring those yourself, or rent them (search for ''cape cod linen rental'' to find rental services; we recommend The Furies or Essential Rentals).
THE BEACHES
The house is a walking distance from two of Wellfleet’s bay-side beaches.
The closest beach is Powers Landing, which is half a mile from the house. This is a quiet beach popular with the locals. It has a small parking lot.
The popular Mayo Beach is one mile from the house. This is one of Wellfleet’s “hot spots,” with a cluster of shops and restaurants nearby. Parking is free, and you don’t need a beach sticker.
There are lots of other beaches in the area as well, including pond beaches and ocean-side beaches. For even more beaches, visit the Cape Cod National Seashore park.
THE TOWN
Wellfleet is a small, laid-back town filled with charming restaurants and shops, many of which are a short distance from Thalassa Cottage.
It is known for its many art galleries, making it the ideal spot for artists looking for a DIY artists’ retreat. Saturday night is “gallery night”, when many of the local galleries are open later to welcome strolling summer patrons.
If you’re interested in theatre, the Harbor Stage Company is located next to Mayo Beach, about a mile from the house. The Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre is a short drive away off Route 6. During the spring and summer, WHAT puts on shows for both adults and children, and also hosts musical events.
There is a small farmers market off Main Street on Wednesday mornings from May to October.
You can get basic groceries at the Wellfleet Marketplace. For larger shopping runs, we recommend stopping at one of the grocery stores along Route 6 on your way up to Wellfleet: the Market Basket just past the Sagamore bridge, the Shaw’s off Exit 12 in Orleans, or the Stop & Shop near the Orleans roundabout. If you want to shop after you get here, there is a Stop & Shop about half an hour north in Provincetown, just off Route 6.
Near the Wellfleet Marketplace you’ll find the Wellfleet Spirits Shoppe, which carries a full selection of beer, wine, and liquor. (We especially recommend the local Dry Line Cape Cod gin!) The Spirits Shoppe has wine tastings on Fridays from 5 to 7. read more show less
