Description

Heather Hill is sited on the top of a hill overlooking Wellfleet Harbor. Convenient location: A 20-minute walk along the beach over Uncle Tim's bridge takes you into Wellfleet Center and it's a 5-minute drive to Wellfleets' famous glacial ponds and ocean beaches. Biking and walking trails abound. We're also convenient to P-town (about a 13 mile drive). Cottage amenities include: indoor-outdoor showers, cable TV, laundry room, 2 glassed/screened in porches, an inviting deck with beautiful hard topped cedar gazebo and gas grill overlooking a large open yard, a shaded tree area with two hammocks, a washer/dryer, and a fully-equipped galley kitchen. Walk through the yard to a harbor beach that's across from Wellfleet pier. Memorable.

NOTE: Should you be so inclined and since there is no smoking allowed inside cottage! There is a large yard with a bench and a deck.

I enjoy the food at Moby Dick’s on route 6 heading towards Provincetown. The Bookstore Restaurant is right across from Mayo Beach – the food and prices are moderate and the view is great. You can get there by turning left at the lights into Wellfleet center and then taking a left at the sign to the harbor – follow commercial street past the pier and around the corner and the Bookstore is there. The Pearl Restaurant across from the Wellfleet pier has entertainment daily and has a view of the marina, and of course there’s the famous Beachcomber restaurant at Cahoon Hollow beach. There many fine restaurants in Wellfleet.

Wednesday nights, there is square dancing on the pier.

Provincetown is a great place to go on a rainy day – lots of shops and good restaurants (our favorite is the Lobster Pot pretty much in the center). Also, you can catch a ‘whale watching’ boat. They also have Dune tours. The dunes in P-town are a natural phenomenon. Ask anyone where you can find ‘Art’s Dune Tours’. There are houses there (no amenities or utilities) that people are allowed to live in free for the summer. The only condition is that they prove to the town selectmen that their purpose for living is the pursuit of art. When my kids were little they would let you climb the dunes but due to erosion that’s not allowed anymore.
If you travel toward Orleans on Rt. 6, across from Hog Island Restaurant there’s a street on your right called Lieutenants Island Road. Turn right there and at the end is a small wooden bridge that is safe to go over and Lieutenants Island is on the other side of it. But be careful because if the tide’s in the water covers the bridge and you can’t get off of the island until the tide recedes!

If you decide to do a Whale Watch, chances are you’ll see schools of dolphin also.

Heading toward P-town, on your right, almost across from Mobey Dick’s restaurant is a road called Gull Pond Road. If you turn right and keep your eyes peeled you’ll see a stone stanchion on the left that says Gull pond. Turn left and you can’t miss it. They rent paddle-boats and canoes; the water’s warm. There’s a sluice-way at the end of the pond that enters into another pond.

PS … If you want to do a charter fishing trip there are oodles of charter boats on the pier! There’s nothing like fresh grilled striped bass. When going toward P-town, take any right hand turn and go to the end and you’ll wind up at an ocean beach. Have fun!
We also have the WHAT (Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater) a short walk from the cottage.
There are clay tennis courts just past the post office and Dunkin (Donuts) plus hard top tennis and pickleball courts at Baker’s Field across from Mayo Beach.
Route 6 towards Orleans is a fitness center (Willy’s Gym)- about 7 miles from the cottage. Don’t forget the extensive “rail trail” for bicycling that starts in Wellfleet and goes for 30+ miles, and there is a boat launch at the pier where you can also rent boats or get sport fishing charters.
Wellfleet is all about enjoying nature and the arts. The Audubon Center also has wonderful nature trails

If 2 weeks in a row are rented there is a $100 discount. MORE THEN 2 WEEKS RECEIVE LARGER DISCOUNTS.

    A Charming Cottage

My husband and I ventured out on our first vacation since quarantine. We picked the perfect place! The house is charming and comfortable. The back porch was amply sized, enough for six people to have dinner comfortably. There is also a screened-in room where you can spend time if the weather is inclement. The owner, Carl, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area, and lives just next door. While not fancy, the house was more than adequate. We can't wait to visit again soon!

Great. Your vacation stay here was fun. Thanks for the kind review. Be sure to schedule your 2021 vacation time early for the best choice of dates. Also, many owners are increasing their rates for 2021, however your rate will not go up. Thanks again for being a good tenant and for your review of Heather Hill Cottage.

Dear Carl, Steph & John, We are thoroughly enjoying our 12 day stay at your cottage! This location is perfect for us as we love Wellfleet, and being able to walk to the beach. Thank you for sharing your space and for making us feel so welcome. Thanks also for sharing your tools for our bicycle repair and for the tarp to cover our bikes and protect them from the rain. We love the porch, deck, huge yard and the outdoor shower. Thank you for your hospitality!

Heather Hill had previously been maintained and rented by Carl's mom. When she passed he and I, with help from our children began doing the same. Previous to that Carl and I had owned Gutsy Bender's Restaurant (the new Fire Station is now on that property). Carl and I did not accept retirement well so I began painting watercolors and Carl created yard art and plays the piano either as a solo or with his band 'Big Jazz'. We live in Wellfleet year around with our rescue beagle, Gracie.

What is special about this property?
First let me say that Heather Hill is NOT a cottage colony. We are located atop a hill along with 3 other rental properties. Our rental has a very large yard with 2 hammocks and if you have children, they will enjoy our tire swing. Our son lives in NY and when he visits he complains that the birds wake him in the morning. It is a 5 minute walk through our yard to the Harbor beach. Once on the beach it is a 20 minute walk along the beach, over Uncle Tim's walking bridge, into the center of Wellfleet. Privacy, peace and quiet abound. Ponds and ocean beaches are a 5 minute drive from Heather Hill.

What is special about your town?
Wellfleet is a town seeped in History. As you travel down Main street you will pass the historical society. They offer walking tours in and around Wellfleet. There is one market and one bank in town. Also, Preservation Hall in the center of town offers a variety of activities and entertainment throughout the summer. We boast a live theatre (W.H.A.T) that not only features name actors and actresses but there are also children’s plays. We are approximately 13 miles from P-Town and 13 miles from Orleans.
