Duarte/Downey Real Estate is one of the largest and most respected Rental & Sales agencies on the Outer Cape and has been serving clients since 1937. You will have a trusted local and knowledgeable presence to help make your vacation as memorable and enjoyable as possible. Although you will have a professional company managing all aspects of your rental, we want to tell you about the proud owner of the house, Jed!
He grew up in Brookline Massachusetts and, since he was born, spent every summer on Herring Pond and Cape Cod where his family enjoyed clam bakes, hours of play in the lake, bike rides to the penny candy store, and time just being together. To protect this land that meant so much to him, he established the Herring Pond Watershed Association—which has grown from 43 to over 100 acres of conservation land—in honor of his grandfather.
Extending his family's cape tradition to the Cape Cod National Seashore, his father started going to this lovely spot on the Dunes in 1983 and built his dream home. It instantly became another beloved destination for family and friends to be together.
Jed currently lives in California with his family and the tradition of visiting the cape every summer remains an important part of their lives. He is fortunate to now own the properties he grew up on and is thrilled to be able to share Dunesmith with others. He hopes that you make the kind of memories he has in abundance from time with the people he loves in this special spot.
What is special about this property?
Dunesmith is a magnificent refuge within walking distance of the Cape Cod National Seashore and one of the most beautiful, swimmable lakes in the world, Horseleech Pond. You will be struck by its majestic perch over the ocean and lose yourself in the beauty of nature by walking the roads of the surrounding woods or along the spectacular beach.
The property's cluster of cottages has all the amenities while maintaining a traditional cape feel and the local charm, unique to this part of the world.
What is special about your town?
Once inhabited by the Wampanoag tribe, Truro is beautiful coastal land that stretches along the far reaches of the Cape Cod peninsula. Incorporated in 1709, the whaling, shipbuilding, and fishing industries thrived until the harsh tides reduced its main port. By the early 20th century, its extraordinary light made it a popular destination for artists like Edward Hopper. Truro sits between energetic Provincetown, the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, quaint Wellfleet, and Cape Cod Bay.
Dunesmith is within walking distance of the Cape Cod National Seashore, established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy to protect the nearly 45k acres of woods, ponds, and beachfront. Enjoy the 30 miles of incredible beaches, bike trails, cultural and historic sites, cranberry bogs, flora and fauna, and endless trails and roads for walking. Visit www.nps.gov/caco to learn more.
