Description

Description

This home was originally built in 1920 and has remained in the same family ever since. It has been modified over these years and completely renovated in 2011. It is situated on a private barrier beach facing Cape Cod Bay on one side and the great salt marsh on the other side with direct access to the private beach on Cape Cod Bay that is part of the property.

It is one house in a single row of private beach houses along Spring Hill beach. There are views from all rooms in the house. The first floor has a large modern kitchen, living/dining room, full bathroom and a bedroom with a queen bed. This bedroom overlooks the large saltmarsh and has a small deck off it for viewing wildlife, sunsets, and the 7' to 10' tide changes.

The second floor has one very large bedroom with one king size bed, one queen size bed and two single beds with unobstructed views of both the Cape Cod Bay and the salt marsh. There is another bathroom upstairs with a soaking tub instead of a shower. The house is heated and has two wall air-conditioners, one upstairs and one downstairs.

Decks almost completely surround the house and a small grill is provided for your use. The deck includes a 30' walkway to the stairs that go to the private beach. The neighborhood is quiet, and located down a private beach road about 3 miles from the center of downtown historic Sandwich. It is about 5 miles away from the Sagamore Bridge with easy access to the mid-Cape highway, and Boston.

House is also pet friendly.

    Lovely location

Had a wonderful stay - cannot beat the location, tranquil, with beautiful views in front and back. Laura was easy to work with and provided helpful ideas for things to do around Sandwich. It was a great place to rest & recharge - the beach was nice and it was a new experience watching the tide come in and out of the salt marsh out front. Convenient to all locations on the Cape with out hustle and bustle. Would definitely rent again - the house had everything we needed.

    Beautiful Home

We loved this home. There was plenty of room for us and our adult children. The view is amazing. We brought our kayaks and has a blast in both the marsh & the bay. The house is well equipped with everything you need for a wonderful vacation. Laura was always very responsive. Looking forward to coming back. Thank you for sharing your home.

    Spacious and gracious
this large home is in a terrific location with lots of windows to enjoy the views of both the ocean and the salt marsh. Proximity to the beach ensured that we fell asleep and awoke to the sounds of surf each day. By far this home is the best stocked of any rental we have been to at the Cape and we took full advantage of the spacious, modern kitchen. Laura is a great and attentive host and shared some of the homes history with us. We will definitely visit again!

This house has been in the family since it was originally built in 1920. I have many very happy childhood memories coming here to spend the summers with my parents and siblings. I am retired now, a very strong beach renourishment advocate and wildlife enthusiast. I've been renting this house for 20 years through a different online service, or word of mouth, and I have been responsible for all upgrades and renovations, with the goal of maintaining some of the original cottage feel while bringing it up to current standards. I use the house myself in the off season and openly admit it is my go to place to find peace of mind and renewal only found on this barrier dune between the ocean and salt marsh.

What is special about this property?
This property includes the house and the private beach that extends to the edge of Cape Cod Bay. The sunsets and sunrise can be spectacular and at night the milkyway can be easily seen above. There have been frequent seal sightings, plenty of birds such as heron, plovers and terns, and on occasion a fox or coyote (seen most often off-season). The high and low tides vary by as much as 7' to 11', and during high wind events the water may cover the road. The second floor was added in 2011. It is basically one vary large room with four beds and a bathroom and living space that provides wonderful views of the Cape Cod Bay and the salt marsh without any obstruction. Boats going in and out of the canal can be most easily seen from this room, or the kitchen downstairs. I should also mention it has a soaking tub situated near a large window in the bathroom overlooking the large salt marsh.

What is special about your town?
The town of Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod as established in 1637, with many original buildings restored. Downtown is located off the beaten track on the north side of Shawme Pond with many historic buildings and homes along winding, historic town roads. The center of town in a working grist mill, historic town hall, town library, and the Hoxie house, the oldest house on the Cape maintained as originally built, open to the public.
The Dunbar House Tea Room and Wine Bar serves high tea in the afternoons, and the Daniel Webster Inn serves a wonderful brunch on Sunday mornings in their green house. There are other restaurants in town, or out at the Marina along the canal, including Fishermen's View, and the more casual Seafood Sam's. All worth trying. You can also find within walking distance the famous Sandwich Glass museum. A short ride past the Town Hall you will find the Heritage Plantation. Here you will find walkable acres of gardens including rhododendrons in full bloom during the spring,
