Description

Description

The three bedroom, two bath, spacious, mid century modern home is hidden on over an acre of shrubs and low trees. A 7 minute stroll takes you to Carleton Shores, spacious, private beach. When you have lots of gear drive to the parking area then a two minute walk down the path.
The large living room has a seating area for conversations, TV and bird watching; or choose another spot to play games or read a book; or head out the slider onto the west deck with a cup of coffee at the bistro table. The cathedral ceilinged dining area opens to the east deck with outdoor dining and seating. The cozy kitchen has everything you need for a quick meal or a big dinner. Use the gas grill outside for burgers and more.
The first floor bedroom has a queen bed and is adjacent to a full bath/shower and an office/laundry room. Two sunrise view bedrooms and a full bath/shower are on the second floor. The south bedroom has a pair of twin beds set up as a king, or separate them. The north bedroom has two twin beds and twin bunk beds. Both bedrooms have blackout shades if sunrise is too early. Sleep with the sound of waves on the beach.
There is a two car garage and parking for an additional car outside.

Drive west down the Old King's Highway to historic Sandwich Village or go a little farther to the supermarkets, restaurants, and ice cream shops near Sandwich harbor and the canal. Head east on Old King's Highway to historic Barnstable or to Hyannis with its many shops and eateries.

Bicycle in the neighborhood or beside the Cape Cod Canal, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, or the Barnstable conservation area. Access to Scorton Creek, for great kayaking and fishing, is less than a mile away. Beach chairs and surf toys are available for your use.

The kitchen is well equipped with pots (including a 12 quart one), pans, utensils, dishes, cutlery and glassware

You can supply your own linens or use the ones in the house, provided they are returned to the appropriate closet in a clean and neat condition.

Janette's home was bright, spacious and comfortable. We had plenty of room for our family of seven. The private beach, which was a 5 minute walk from the house, is beautiful and quiet. It was nice to have an outdoor shower and a large porch. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway within walking distance to a beach, this is a great place.

    Wonderful vacation

Everything was terrific -- the house has plenty of space for all of our family and the walk to the beach so easy. Plus, lots of great beach stuff to bring! The private beach was so idyllic and we had a great time there during the days and for sunsets. The kids loved the ping pong table and all the games in the house. Quiet and peaceful, we'd love to come back. Great to have the new AC units in for the humid days.

In my childhood, we would visit our grandparent's at their beach house. It was an idyllic time. Stayiing at Helen's Dream House calls to mind those days. This is why we come back.
Now Janette does NOT hover over us like my Gram did, but she is a wonderful host- she's responsive for everything but her instructions are impeccable.
The house is well provisioned and Janette provides volumes of helpful instructions, local tips and how to make the best of your stay. We will be back many times.

The stay at Helen's Dream House was just what my family needed. The home was the perfect base of operation for trips to the beach, jaunts to Sandwich or other locations on the Cape or to hang around and relax. There was close proximity to good restaurants, the neighborhood was calm, quiet and pleasant, and the walk to the beach took only a few minutes which made it perfect for taking young kids to/from the water's edge as needed.

Janette was very responsive and made a ton of resources available to us via email (and printed copies at the home). With so many things to do on the Cape, we are already thinking of our return trip! show more show less

Upon entering Helen's Dream House, we were struck by the airy, open, sunlit layout. It is clean and set in beautiful, green, birdsong area from which, in the absolute quiet of the night, you can hear the waves coming to shore on a gorgeous expansive beach which is only a 5 min walk away.

A guest book, going back several years, attests to guests' consistent satisfaction. The kitchen provides drawers of those cooking implements we use in daily prep. We found pretty much all we needed.

Janette, diligent re the needs of her guests, was very responsive. She obviously has her guests' interest at heart as she paid attention to helpful details, i.e., she suggested we bring water shoes if we planned to walk on the edge of the water because the beach (at low tide?) features small rocks.

We would definitely consider returning to this lovely spot.

I stayed at Janette's home with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday and enjoy a long weekend in Cape Cod. Janette was a great host and answered all of my questions promptly as well as provided great local information and house instructions. The house itself was absolutely wonderful- spacious and private with beautiful views and well stocked amenities. We also thoroughly enjoyed the beach that was just a short walk from the house. Janette and her lovely home made our vacation perfect and I look forward to visiting again in the future. show more show less

    So Relaxing

We had a wonderful week staying at Helen's Dream House. As soon as we walked in, it felt like home. There is so much room to hang out. Great that there is a library with interesting books, magazines, puzzles, and games. And a table for an in-process puzzle to reside. The kitchen is well-equipped, and we found everything we needed was available. Loved hearing the ocean waves. Plus, how secluded and woodsy the property is. We saw lots of bunnies. Very relaxing. And best of all, the beach is within walking distance. The owners were also very responsive to any questions we had during our booking process. show more show less

Despite the rainy weather (Hurricane Lee!!) we had an amazing time at Helen's Dream House. The home is beautiful and had everything we could want. The private beach is such a gem! The birds, rabbits, and turkeys gave us so much entertainment ... and nothing beats the sound of the waves in the near distance. THANK YOU and we hope to come back again.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in this lovely house! We had such a relaxing week and the kids loved the bunk bed and games! We loved the quiet beach - skipped many stones - and the privacy of the property (with a view in some rooms!) was perfect! Thanks so much!

Peter and Janette inherited Helen’s Dream House upon Peter’s father’s death in 2009. So let us tell you a bit about its history.

Helen and Lou were introduced to Cape Cod vacationing by spending time with friends at their Mashpee bay front camp in the 1950s. While searching for a place of their own, they found this lot in Carleton Shores. After years of saving, and Helen’s return to work as a physical therapist, they built their own house in the early 1970s. Lou and particularly Helen enjoyed visits from family and many friends until her death in 1995. Lou kept Helen’s dream house carefully maintained but seldom used after her death. Helen and Lou’s favorite time was when their family all converged on Helen’s Dream House for a week together, going to the beach, visiting Heritage Plantation and going to the Sandwich bandstand for concerts.

We enjoy being able to care for and share this home as Helen loved to do. We don’t have the ability to use it as often as Helen did, so we decided to share it by renting to those who would like to experience vacationing on Cape Cod. We have found that multi generational family vacations and two families sharing have really enjoyed Helen’s dream house as we have done.
