What we liked most about this listing was its removal from the congestion of Provincetown, which allowed for a quiet and restful stay. Surrounded by greenery and perched above the bay, this home offers one of the most serene retreats we have ever stayed in. We loved morning breakfasts outdoors on one of its spacious patios where we could enjoy the fresh, clean air and hot showers outdoors in its private and clean space off the laundry room.
The galley kitchen was well-stocked leading to a spacious dining room with a super- sized dining table for family and friends to enjoy fresh seafood meals by candlelight. The living room offered comfortable seating to watch our favorite movies. The first floor also offered a spacious sunroom and bathroom.
The beds upstairs were luxuriously comfortable, and each bedroom had ample accommodations to unload our luggage. The bathroom was large, well-vented, and equipped for each of us to keep our toiletries and towels.
A brief descent brought us to the beach and a twenty-minute walk to town brought us to the mecca of shopping and dining.
Absolutely perfect! We hope to enjoy this property again when we visit Provincetown.

We had the pleasure of staying this week at the Mayflower House for our vacation with friends. The quintessential historic Provincetown 3 bedroom cottage is spacious, well appointed with two wonderful outdoor patios overlooking the scenic bay. The 1890's cottage has all the modern conveniences (Wifi, TV streaming, Music and an equipped kitchen as well as a large washer dryer) which made the stay very comfortable. The Ptown restaurants and old town fun is just a mile's walk away or a very short drive to have access to all that Provincetown has to offer. The house has two patios nestled on a private hill overlooking the bay with an easy stroll to the beach. And you will not want to miss the pleasure of the outdoor shower! We loved hanging at the house and the wonderful outdoor space (grill and plenty of seating) just as much as we enjoyed the Provincetown scene. I highly recommend Mayflower House where you can have it all!

We spent a week at the Mayflower house and had an outstanding time! The house's location was perfect! It was far enough from the city that we felt like we were living in the woods but close enough to walk in daily.
The outdoor space was magnificent. The outside shower was so refreshing and the house was very well equipped. We felt very comfortable at the house and the view of the bay and the lighthouse was a bonus. Not to mention, the house was very clean and Mariellen was most helpful if we had questions.
We will definitely rent the house again upon our return!

It was the first time our friends had visited the cape and we wanted it to be really special. The Mayflower provided that perfect charm of New England in every aspect.
The location couldn't have been better for us. There was shady seclusion and Adirondack chairs where one could read to or watch birds on the bluff.
there was a patio with a grill and a large table to dine alfresco. It was quiet and private with all the amenities one would need to hang out all day. But just in case one craved the colorful downtown scene, the art galleries or one of the many terrific seafood restaurants, the center of the action was a flat, one mile walk away! there was also a town trolly that could drop you off at your stairs.
The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were all comfortable with nice crisp linens and plenty of towels. A W/D in the utility porch leads to the most charming, completely private outdoor shower. There were also 2 indoor showers for the less adventuresome!
MariEllen was an attentive host, answering our questions promptly but keeping a low profile.
we would highly recommend this property.

Mariellen is an absolutely wonderful host and her home is full of Cape Cod charm ??…..beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean!! We felt right at home and could smell the ocean air from our windows…Our pup Littles was welcomed with open arms and we appreciated that so much! We will definitely be back next year, thank you Mariellen!!

Fun, seaside getaway!

Lots of space to spread out and enjoy yourself on your own or with others. Outdoor shower is the best! Short walk across the street to bayside beach. We set up camp over there all week and just walked back to the house to resupply. Enjoyed an great cookout with friends on one night. The house is made to host! Enjoy!

Beautiful, spacious gem

We stayed for a week in August at Mariellen's lovely Mayflower cottage. The house is equipped with every item you could need, from serving platters, to washer/dryer, coffee maker, linens, to a book to suit every interest. While temps were high the week we were visiting, there was always a gentle breeze and shade to be enjoyed at Mariellen's beautiful outdoor seating space. The location is great: a 5 minutes walk to the beach, an easy bike ride into town, and you can wave down the shuttle bus right down the stairs on Commercial Street. Mariellen was a great host, too! Met me on arrival to talk me through things and was available via text. When it came time to check out, I found I had a flat tire! Mariellen appeared to help out. When a stubborn lug nut prevented us from changing it ourselves, she directed us to a service center that could help. Note to the wise: If you are driving up, consider your car's clearance. The driveway loops around from Commercial Street to the rear of the property and it's a little bumpy. My little volvo had to creep along. Additionally, the trees above the parking spots were letting out a little sap - nothing elbow grease couldn't get out, but you may want to check every few days to keep any droplets from hardening.

A slice of heaven in Provincetown

We loved our stay at The Mayflower. The place was well appointed and stocked, the beds were extremely comfortable, and the breeze in the yard kept us cool. The outdoor shower was a HUGE hit - super private and well-appointed. If you're looking for a classic Cape adventure, look no further. We plan to come back!

My family had a wonderful week staying at the Mayflower House. The house is much bigger than the tiny vacation cottages on the beach, so we had plenty of space to spread out. There was so much to love:

--It's close to the beach, with wonderful views and breezes off the water
--The rooms are light and airy, with comfortable furniture and unique décor
--Everything is scrupulously clean. Seriously, I've never seen a house that clean.
--Large dining area with a long table and plenty of chairs
--Kitchen stocked with every pot, pan, dish, and utensil you could ever want
--Comfortable beds and pillows
--Plenty of storage shelves in the bedrooms and bathrooms to organize your things.
--Two full bathrooms plus an outdoor shower, so no waiting for the bathroom to be free
--Books, games, and movies galore to keep you occupied on rainy days.
--Plenty of outdoor seating and a grill for sunny days

The Mayflower House was owned at one point by my great-grandparents (I.A. Centervall--see if you can find his name in the dining room) and then my great aunt. I remember going to visit my great aunt in the 1970s, and I was a little nervous to discover what changes might have happened since then. I was delighted at what Mariellen has done with the place. It's a great blend of old Cape cottage charm and modern, updated conveniences and comforts. She is ready to help with whatever you need--answers texts promptly and provides great information about P-town and the surrounding area.

We couldn't have asked for a better vacation home. I can't wait to go back.

This was our third trip to the Mayflower house, and we daresay the best one yet! The Mayflower offers countless features:
-Spectacular views of the bay
-Steps to the water
-Perfect breezy screened in porch overlooking the bay
-Comfy interior with tons of charm!
-Open concept living area with high ceilings and skylight
-Fully equipped kitchen for eating in and entertaining guests
-A quaint library of books, local art and vintage artifacts
-Outdoor shower that is spacious, clean and private
-Plenty of outdoor seating in the side yard with a top notch grill
-Three comfortable bedrooms with fresh linens and down pillows

This is just a short list of attributes, but nothing can compare to the overall atmosphere of charm and location on the cape. We planned many day trips to nearby ocean beaches, sailing excursions, and eateries. There is great parking on the premises. It's a short walk into town or bus trip if you don't want to drive. We took advantage of the great nightlife and entertainment in P-town as well, even though we hated to leave the house!

Mariellen is the consummate host. There when you need her and extremely responsive to any questions.

We could say that "third time's the charm" but really every visit has been spectacular. We look forward to our fourth.

A Little Slice of Heaven on Earth
Mayflower House has the feel of days gone by...It is a true gem and a most delightful place to have your vacation by the sea. My husband, sister, daughter and I enjoyed a week at the house, torn between just wanting to have lazy days relaxing on the porch or heading into town to enjoy carnival week. We managed to do both, as well as get trips to the beach across the street(easy walk), and Herring Cove, and Race Point beach where we were entertained by the seals swimming by close to shore. It was always nice coming back "home"and having plenty of showers and space to accommodate the family getting ready to go out for the evening. The beds were very comfortable and the ocean breeze lulled us to sleep. Mariellen was such a wonderful host and took good care of us. We definitely would return to Mayflower House. Thank you Mariellen for creating such a wonderful space...

We love The Mayflower!!
First of all, the location is incredible. The house itself is SO charming and comfortable. Beds are comfortable, everything was clean, the views are so nice!! We loved the front sunroom for our morning coffee and the outside area for our evening cocktails. Overall, our stay was a fantastic experience all around. We will definitely be back.

Great house in good location!
We had a great stay. It was great having walking access to the beach and being close to town. We also enjoyed the outdoor areas, but I would recommend bringing bug spray for the evenings.

Charming home!
We stayed at the Mayflower for a week and couldn't have a had a better time. The house is charming and the location is perfect. There are books, games, puzzles to engross yourself in when not enjoying the grill, out door shower, and super close proximity to the beach. Mariellen was very accommodating to us and our dogs. We really loved being able to harvest our own clams at low tide, grill our freshly caught stripers, and walk the conveniently located path behind the houses. The Mayflower is situated in a cozy group of cedar shake homes at the top of a small hill. We could see the ocean, and loved the open air of the sea breeze that lulled us to sleep every night. There were only 2 of us but there was plenty of space for a bigger group to spread out and really enjoy the home itself and the close proximity to P-town, beaches, and restaurants. We really thought very highly of Mariellen, and her efforts to make this home a lot like being in your own retreat. Fully stocked kitchen for entertaining, and plenty of dishes to serve up our sea bounty. We can not wait to return. Thanks again Mariellen for opening your lovely home!

We've stayed here twice and look forward to coming again. This is a beautiful old school Provincetown house that has been beautifully and tastefully updated and cared for. The house overlooks the bay and we've had many wonderful dinners and evenings on the three season front porch.

Everything in the house is comfortable and generous and there is every convenience imaginable. The house is immaculate; there are all new beds and high end linens and towels. Mariellen Serena is very responsive and easy to work with. We've rented in P'town for decades and consider this house a rare find.

GREAT LOCATION WITH OCEAN BREEZES

Fantastic place with lots of room to spread out - big dining table and separate porch table. Chairs and tables outside with patio and grill. Outdoor shower with good heat. Easy walk down stairs across street down stone drive way to beach access. About a 3 minute walk. Fantastic.

We had the pleasure of spending a wonderful week in late July at the Mayflower House. We had been to the Cape many times before, but had never really explored Provincetown. It was such a blast! Great town, great food, and close to some really great beaches. The house is just far enough out of town to feel private, but close enough to walk or ride your bike into town.

Mariellen was a wonderful host - greeting us upon arrival and getting us acquainted with everything we'd need for an enjoyable stay. The house itself is just wonderful, well-appointed and loaded with all sorts of unique decorations and artwork. We felt at home right away.

The house sits on top of a small hill - providing breathtaking views and a constant breeze. We basically lived on the porch. The family also enjoyed the outdoor shower ... the only one we used the whole time we were there.

We hope to return next year and make some more memories. Thanks again, Mariellen, for a truly special time :)

This was our fourth year renting the Mayflower cottage from Mariellen, and it was a joy, as always. She is a wonderful and very responsive host, and each year we see new details incorporated into the house to make it even better than before. The Mayflower cottage has wonderful vibes, and being there with our group of friends is pure joy. The screen porch with its incredible view out towards Long Point is the perfect place to sit with a book by yourself, or with a glass of wine and conversation in the afternoon. Multiple sofas in the living room, and the open floor plan mean folks doing dinner prep in the kitchen can still hang out and watch the game or a screening of “Jaws”.

The character of this authentic beach house can’t be beat; it doesn’t need any bells or whistles yet the WiFi is fantastic and Alexa will play whatever music you like. The bedrooms are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms spacious and clean. Outdoor seating options abound, in case you tire of the gorgeous view from the screen porch. Oh, and the huge outdoor shower tucked away on the side of the house is ideal after a long day at the beach. We are already counting the days until next year. Thank you, Mariellen!

What a great way to enjoy Cape Cod! We LOVE the Mayflower House!!!

The views are amazing, it's across the street from the beach (easy walk), and there are TWO parking spots (you RARELY find that in town). It's close to downtown so you can do fun stuff, but just enough removed to then return home for peace and quiet.

The yard is really great with lots of outdoor seating (shade and sun) and very private. The kitchen is adorable, the bedrooms/beds great, lots of room for your family.

We really enjoyed just relaxing and reading on the screened in porch, walking across to the beach and heading down the street to restaurants and all kinds of fun stuff.

This is a well maintained house too, that's a big plus, in addition to washer/dryer!! Couldn't ask for more! See you again soon, Mariellen. Thanks for being an amazing hostess!

A new stove and dishwasher in the kitchen have made Mayflower cottage even more desirable as a vacation destination. It is filled with good books, interesting art, and comfortable furniture. The view of the bay its spectacular and you'll love the ocean breezes. There's no prettier spot to spend a vacation near Provincetown.

My husband, son and daughter, and two of their friends had an amazing time at Mayflower House. Everything you can imagine was provided for comfort and ease, and every corner had something interesting and fun to enjoy. The beds were comfy and even tho it was chilly at night we had lots of warm blankets to stay warm. There was ample room to relax. The small kitchen was well equipped and though we ate out a lot we also cooked some meals. The views were gorgeous and the location just outside town made it quiet and private. It was a short 5 min drive to all the pleasures of Commercial Street. We will definitely be back next year!

Mariellen is a wonderful host and her house was perfect for our get together. Great location with plenty of parking and a very cozy and comfortable house for six people. Kitchen was well-stocked with all the cooking utensils necessary to cook meals. Comfortable beds upstairs, which as nice since it was rather cool at night. Oh yeah, high-speed Internet connection was a plus! Highly recommended.

The Mayflower was a perfect getaway: Views of the water and access to the beach close by, quirky decorations in a refurbished historic house, ample communal space both indoors and out with all the amenities required for a great vacation

We had a really amazing time at the Mayflower House. Mariellen was extremely helpful and professional prior to our arrival. As soon as we arrived we knew we had picked the right place to stay. The house is up a short private road through the woods and situated on top of a hill overlooking the Bay. You have a beautiful view of the water and sunrise from the patio outside and from two of the bedrooms. The yard is well maintained and very comfortable for relaxing and eating outside. Inside the house is extremely unique and charming. Mariellen is a collector of the many interesting things and art works that decorate the house. This house is the opposite of a generic rental property -- the ceilings are beamed, the floors are wooden, there are interesting things everywhere, and a big library of books. The house is really charming. You'll feel like you're in a well-loved home, not a bland rental. We loved it. And should also add that the kitchen is really well stocked with equipment for cooking -- much more so than any other rental house in Ptown (or anywhere else) that i've stayed. In the morning we'd take the short walk across the street to the beach and walk out into the ocean and low tide. A great place to have your morning coffee! The house is not downtown Ptown -- so you should be aware of that. You do have to walk or bike or take the shuttle about 2 miles into the center of town. We actually really liked this because it was a built in reason to get exercise every day and when we got home at night, it was quiet and a different experience than the bustle of town. I definitely would recommend this house to a friend -- and would come back and stay myself on a future visit to Ptown.

Mariellen was very welcoming and reachable. We had one minor issue, but she was quick to respond! The house itself was adorable and has great views of the bay from the front two bedrooms. The screened in porch and out door areas were perfect for relaxing, reading, or doing yoga. There were 6 of that stayed and we each enjoyed our time and the location. The Marilyn Monroe garage was a perfect landmark for cabs, new friends, or knowing where to jump off the shuttle. I would definitely consider staying at this location again.

Just got back from a family vacation at Mariellen's vacation home. The house is charming and just as described - so relaxing and a great location! We loved walking the beach each morning and being able to take a short shuttle ride into Provincetown. Also really liked the outdoor shower! Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at Mariellen's Mayflower cottage the last week in July, 2016. A week that was miserably hot back in Boston. The cottage's location on a bluff above Cape Cod bay meant that breezes kept the cottage cool. My partner and I had a great week, relaxing with our two dogs, taking them for walks on the bay when the tide was low, and on the trail through the woods behind the cottage when the tide was high. The location is quiet and very private-feeling, but close to Provincetown and the National Seashore and everything else P'town has to offer. A car is recommended, but the shuttle to Provincetown stops right down the steps from the cottage, so you can get into town easily that way as well. The cottage has a funky and charming design aesthetic, and is very comfortable. Filled with books of all kinds, so you won't need to bring your own trashy summer reading. The kitchen is well equipped for any type of cooking you might want to do. Just be sure to put your fresh food in the fridge, or ants may discover it. The house has a tv, cable access, a DVD player, and wifi, so if you MUST bring work, you can stay connected. Cell phone reception is pretty good from most spots in the house as well. The outdoor patio is lovely, and the grill is excellent. The hot and cold outdoor shower is really a treat. The owner Mariellen is very helpful but also unobtrusive. All in all, we couldn't have been happier with our stay at Mayflower Cottage. Highly recommended!

We just returned from our second visit to the Mayflower cottage, and it was even lovelier than we remembered. The size and open layout were perfect for our group of 5. Although the cottage has many comfortable seating areas both inside and out, the screened front porch with water views was by far the favorite. Bedrooms are cozy and comfortable; we were amazed to find that we all slept like babies. Even on a warm summer day, the constant cool breeze from the bay keeps the hillside location the perfect temperature. Having two full bathrooms is great for larger groups, but the spacious and private outdoor shower is where it's at. I've rented from Mariellen for many years, and she is truly an outstanding host -- 100% responsive and accommodating, yet never intrusive. As long as you bring groceries, there's absolutely no reason to leave the house, but we did enjoy the lovely walk into town a few times; the shuttle bus runs right by if you're too tired to walk. Bayside beach access is right across the street and down a sandy lane. We're already dreaming of next year...

After eight years visiting Mayflower House, there is no doubt we've concluded we've found the best place to stay in the Truro, Provincetown area. Not only is the house immaculately maintained and updated on an almost annual basis, but the owner is absolutely committed to making your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. Since the house is fully provisioned, all you need to do is pack in the your groceries and libations and let your vacation begin!! The house is very well maintained and the expectations of each tenant upon departure are simply and clearly spelled out. No surprises for anyone. We would recommend the property to anyone - you just can't beat it. From a location perspective, the house is outside of Provincetown proper, but is a short shuttle ride away. You could even walk or run to town if you were so inclined. Once in Provincetown, the selection of restaurants spans many cuisines and classifications from street food to fine dining. Attractions are equally varied from people watching, visiting galleries, climbing Pilgrim's Monument, sailing on a whale watch or visiting one of the many beaches and/or lighthouses that dot the seaside around town. If you decide to stay at Mayflower House, you'll not regret it!

This is a delightful house. Views of the bay from the yard and the beach just across the street. My kids and I rode bikes to town (1 mile) every day. The house is cool and comfortable and clearly decorated by someone with a good eye for detail. Mariellen is a great host -- attentive without ever intruding. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mayflower House this past August. The home was spacious and airy and clean and well kept. We liked the private setting and the views of the Bay. Easy access to Provincetown. We cooked in most of the time and the kitchen was well equipped and the grill was easy to use. Late afternoon reads on the patio or the screened porch were favorite times for us. I recommend this home very highly-you will not be disappointed.

We had our son and his fiancée plus our dear friend from NYC..oh and Tito our French Bulldog..that meant five adults we were more than comfortable and had many places to sit and read,enjoy the view, or just space out. Many photo ops in this groovy house it really is special. Thanks Mariellen.

This charming cottage is fully equipped and well maintained. Its location on historic Mayflower Heights offers a wonderful view and sea breezes, with convenient access to the bay beach below. The downstairs living area includes a porch with seating and a table, giving you two dining areas if you have extra guests. There is a desk at the foot of the stairs that can serve as a study nook for checking your computer or letter writing. The restaurants of Provincetown are nearby, but so are those in Truro and Wellfleet (our favorite there is The Wicked Oyster). We have come for three years and consider it and Provincetown one of the all time great vacation spots!

By now 3 months have passed since our family vacation (2 parents with 2 kids living temporarily in NY (1.5 and 4.5y) and 2 grandparents who came over from Germany) at Mayflower House in Provincetown. We all have enjoyed this vacation very much - not least because of the natural hospitality and genuine friendliness of and the great home provided by Mariellen. There was so much attention, not only to all You could wish for a vacation home, kitchen, outdoor grill, equipment, cleanliness, maintainance etc, but also to the house itself, humorous and cosy details, just welcoming and in a charming and relaxed manner comforting You. Thank You Mariellen! The house and place has its own distinct character so that it appears able to embrace a variety of characters, different personalities and age groups. We loved the screened porch, especially for lunchtime and early afternoon, enjoyed the outdoor grill and the conviviality of the place. It has been a less than 5 mins walk down and across the street to the beach with our 2 kids and a ride of less than 10 mins to Provincetown center by car. This definitely is a place we all would love to come back to and which we would recommend without hesitation to friends.

If you want to feel at home in your vacation rental, you should stay at the Mayflower! Mariellen is so gracious and the house has all the amenities you need - dishwasher, grill, laundry, beach access, even a few good knives! But, it's the extra touches like antiques and art that make it warm and cozy. The beds are comfortable, the front porch begs for you to sit and read on it and the outdoor shower is a MUST! I don't think we'll ever stay anywhere else in P-Town!

My Wife, 9 month year old and boston terrier stayed at the Mayflower the first week of September and it was absolutely perfect. The entire place is very eclectic with lots of books, games, boat artifacts, and interesting knick knacks to make it feel like a nice home. Mariellen takes really good care of her home. She keeps it absolutely immaculate and is a great way to start our vacation off. Like all the other reviews, lots of time is spent in the screened in porch. The Bay is an easy walk right across the street. Getting to town was no problem at all and is a nice walk. I highly recommend this property when choosing one. Our family (including two teenage boys and a 3-year-old) vacationed at the Mayflower House for the first time in July 2008. As soon as we walked up to the house it was clear that the owner takes great pride in the property; both the yard and the house were very clean and well cared for. There is an abundance of outdoor seating, all overlooking the Bay. The first floor is a beautiful, open, airy space (the online pics don't do it justice) with a bathroom, cute kitchen, large dining room and wonderful living area with plenty of room to flop. The living room leads to the great screened porch which runs the width of the house and includes another dining table, couch, chairs, etc. The bedrooms were a perfect size for us and each had its own special view. And the supplies!!...when she says all you need are beach blankets and beach towels she isn't kidding. The kitchen and 2 (full!) bathrooms were completely stocked with more than enough soap, cleaning supplies, towels, etc. The location was perfect for us as it's a short walk to the beach, on the shuttle route and close to town with all its shops and restaurants yet just far enough off the beaten path to enjoy quiet family time as well. I'd highly recommend a stay at the Mayflower House for anyone looking to get away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life.
