Description

Description

Stay in an authentic 18th century grist windmill, secluded and deep in the woods, on the water, off Barley Neck Road in East Orleans. Swim or kayak in Little Pleasant Bay from your private beach just steps away, and explore the Bay and Sampson, Pochet, or Hog Islands at your leisure. Experience the beauty of Cape Cod sunrises and sunsets from the front lawn. And, just maybe, you will see deer or fox that occasionally cross the yard. A grill is available for cookouts, as is a picnic table to enjoy your food while looking out over the Bay. And, when you come back from the beach, there is an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand and salt!

The public beaches, on both the Bay and ocean sides, are within easy driving distances from the Mill.

The loft in THE MILL has twin beds, and there is a full bed in what was the tiny Mill living room that adjoins an open kitchen. In the addition to the Mill (added in 1963), you will find a full bath, the master bedroom with a queen bed, and a living room, which has a fireplace and two window seats looking out over the Bay. Linen rentals available from Cape Cod Linen Rental.

THE MILL amenities include basic cable TV and Internet with WiFi, and a mini-split system used for air conditioning and heat.

THE MILL is not the Four Seasons! It is a home full of history and love in an idyllic setting. Come and enjoy what is so special about Cape Cod in this unique and charming home!

The MILL is adjacent to our new two bedroom home which is separately listed/rented for up to four people (Property ID 25847).

Please note: When using Google Earth, when you put in 45 Chestnut the red marker is not the correct location. When you put in 43 Chestnut--our newer home next door--the red marker is actually placed to the front and right of the Mill home. If you zoom in you can also see the stairs down to the beach, an alternative path down to the beach (with 2 kayaks seen alongside the path), the water, and the beach with a higher tide water line visible in the sand. The view of the bay from the home and the beach also can be seen in the attached pictures.

$100/wk off for multiple wks @+$1,700/wk. Weekly pricing to incl new state/local taxes.

    Annual family reTREAT

2021 will be our 29th year renting The Mill! We feel like we're returning home every time we turn onto sandy Chestnut Dr and wind our way through the woods to the charming shingled cottage.

When we first started to look for a summer rental (1992), the listing description read "rustic charm, not for everyone". We were game, and it was perfect for us. With our (then) babies, (then) teens, (then) collegiates, and now near-30yr olds, we have created the best memories there. />
The Mill has always been a special place for us to retreat, relax, and come together with friends and extended family nearby. We are grateful that Bill (and Michelle) Benton continue to share this house, just as his late father Tom did over the years. It's STILL perfect!
    Thank you,
    Licia and Michael Conforti

Couldn't ask for more--comfortable cottage, gorgeous views, and lovely private beach! We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, wonderful gardens and birds. The Mill has great character; we had fun seeing the artifacts & family history inside. We look forward to returning!

    Wonderful place

We (and our 6 month old baby) spent a wonderful week at the Mill. This place has a very special spirit. Decorated with Love, it also offers a great sea view and a very cozy atmosphere. Sleeping in the oldest part of the house, the Mill itself, felt quite adventurous. Furthermore the place is absolutely clean and quiet. We even had the chance to meet a Fox.
Tom, the charming landlord, gave us great tips concerning special sites and things to do. He even organized us a mixer and a crib for our boy.
We absolutely recommend this place to everyone. We will come back for sure.

Our family has owned this land for about a century. Our adjacent gristmill was moved to the current property and dates back to the late 1700s. We live in the Chicagoland area but have extended family that lives locally around the property.
