Description

This beautiful, spacious, newly renovated house is great for both couples and families.

In the high season we rent from Sunday to Sunday. Most of the houses turn over on Saturday....why not avoid the summer traffic jam and travel on a Sunday intead?

The house offers water views from both of the 2 large decks. Walk down the hill to the tiny beach on Orleans town cove where you can swim, collect shells or launch a boat.
Drive 7 minutes to famous Nauset Beach on the Cape Cod seashore. 7 minutes away on the bay side is Skaket beach, a terrific beach for kids, with tidal pools and amazing sunsets. Other nearby swimming holes are Flax and Cliff ponds in Nickerson State Park and Crystal Lake. The town of Orleans is just a 5 minute walk.

The ground level of the house offers and open floor plan with a large (and very well stocked) cook's kitchen, living, dining and foyer areas. This layout is great for families or couples. One couple can use the ground level with the King sized bed, open living area and fireplace. A second couple or family can have privacy on the lower level with the Queen bed and 2nd bath.

This home is a wonderful place to relax (both inside and out) and to entertain. The dining table can contract to seat 4 of expand to seat 10-12 people. Our kitchen amenities include a Cuisinart, electric mixer, and ice-cream maker. Both the master bedroom with King bed and the dining area open onto the large upper deck where you can dine, have a drink and take in the sun and the view. One end of the deck (off of the bedroom) is screened-in. The living room now has a 37'' flat screen TV with a DVD player and expanded cable service. There is also an ipod dock with an adapter for newer phones.

The lower level has two large bedrooms, a sitting area with a flat screen TV and cable, a printer/fax and a bathroom. The bedroom with the Queen bed has sliding doors that lead outside to the huge lower deck and the outdoor shower. You'll never run out of hot water with our on-demand hot water heater.

We were three couples - college buddies - on a long weekend reunion. Everything was as advertised: The deck - upper, lower, screened-in. Nice view. Provided the perfect hang-out area. Good location: Afternoons on the ocean at one of my favorite Cape beaches, Nauset. And sunsets on the Bay. We are walkers and found beatufil trails at nearby Fort Hill, on Salt Marshes and on the beaches. Best kitchen (high-end gear and all cupboards labeled) for our cooks. Clean and comfortable -probably most comfortable beds I had in a vacation rental. Ruth was very accessible before and during trip when we were looking for things. Overall - one of the best experiences I've had with a vacation rental. show more show less

    beautiful place

We loved the location: being conveniently close to town, but with a view of the Cove from the decks and a little path down to the water. It was peaceful, no traffic noise. The interiors were spacious and extremely comfortable--plush couches for lying and reading, or just looking out at the view. The kitchen had every single thing you need to cook with plus more. Lots of room to cook out and eat with friends on the deck or gather for dessert inside later on. Sunset!

    Great house for families

We had a wonderful week - Lots of space in the house and outside on the large desk. The views from the deck are great and we spent a lot time paddling around the cove. The house has everything you need. We especially love the large well equipped kitchen. House is close to the beach, bike path, grocery stores and lots of cute shops. Hosts were super nice and very responsive. Would highly recommend!

    Great home, great water view

Great location and lovely home. Kitchen was well stocked, great coffee maker and cappuccino machine. We bought ingredients to make gazpacho and found out that there was no blender. Kitchen Aid mixer had old food stuck on the whisk. Outdoor shower is fantastic. Washer and dryer great. Plenty of hot water. The two decks are lovely. Quiet neighborhood. Two of the bedrooms are located in the lower level which seems like a basement and one bedroom is on the main floor. It is important to note that one bedroom is on the main level .The other two bedrooms are located on the lower level (basement area) and has a very loud dehumidifier situated between both bedrooms to keep the rooms dry. There is a note that the dehumidifier can be shut off at night but I was concerned about increasing the moisture in the air and the potential for mold. The bedroom with the twin beds has some type of noisy fixture outside the window. The view from this bedroom is very limited as it faces the scaffolding under the deck. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs. Beds are very comfortable but after driving a long distance, when we got there the maid service did not have the beds made which owner adjusted the $100 laundry fee. Overall the neighborhood, the water view, and the house are great except for the lower level area where the 2 other bedrooms are located. show more show less

    Owner Response:

We are so glad that you liked the decks, the quiet and the view of the water; it's such a peaceful place to relax.

We are sorry that you didn't make use of our Cuisinart for your gazpacho! We don't have a blender, but our very well stocked kitchen has the Cusinart and the Kitchen Aid mixer and every tool one might need to make a gourmet meal. Our cleaning crew does a great job preparing the home for guests, but they must have not seen that the whisk needed a rinse. If a tenant ever has a real issue with the cleanliness of the home, we can send our cleaners back to rectify it.

The lower level bedrooms are not in a basement. The home is built on a hill and both bedrooms have the same double hung windows as are on the upper level of the home. The "Queen" bedroom on the lower level has full height sliding glass doors as well. The "Twin" bedroom has a limited view, of the backyard, and the windows are situated under the upper deck. We are glad that you slept well on the comfortable beds. Guests sleep soundly in that Twin room and then go upstairs to the living room and deck to lounge on a chair and enjoy the gorgeous view.

We were so sorry to learn that you were disturbed by some mysterious noise near your bedroom. We do wish that you had communicated this with us at the time, so that we could have done something to address your issue. We check in with guests after arrival (as we did with you) and are continually available to respond any issues that may arise. Communication is key.

We were quite concerned about your report of hearing noise by the bedroom, so we asked the next tenants, our property manager and our cleaner about the noise level and none of them reported any problems. We still don't know what you were hearing. Hundreds of guests have stayed there, happily and comfortably. There is no "noisy fixture" - just an oil tank that has no moving parts. Also, you cannot hear the dehumidifier (located in the common area) in that room. If guests choose to turn it off overnight there is no problem with accumulating moisture.

To clarify about the linens: When you called us to complain about the beds not being made, we explained (again) that the $100 linen fee is an (optional) fee, if guests use our bed linens and towels but chose not to launder them at the end of their stay. As a service and convenience to our guests, we provide all linens - and free of charge if the guest launders them before check out. Guests really appreciate this, since a linen service can be very expensive. Some guests chose to bring their own linens; either way, no one minds making their beds. It is commonplace for the linens to be left neatly on the beds. In your case, we did graciously offer to waive the linen laundering fee. We regret that you continued to misunderstand, and have misled potential renters on this, and many points, with this review.

    A 5-Star Stay

What a perfect Cape Cod home! We were 5 minutes from Nauset Beach and even closer to town. Each morning we enjoyed coffee on the large deck overlooking Town Cove and watched the sailing races and sailing lessons. And the sunsets - stunning! The open floor plan allowed for lots of cooking camaraderie and NOTHING was needed in cookware - from all the lobster equipment to a great range of baking pans and ingredients. We enjoyed a super clean, super comfortable home that met and exceeded our expectations. We hope to return.

    comfortable rental

House is in a great location in Orleans with a lovely view of the cove. It is roomy and well equipped with everything labeled and easy to access. We were able to walk our paddleboards down the path to use in the cove. The outdoor deck was a comfortable place to enjoy meals and conversation. Homeowner was wonderful to work with - very helpful and responsive.

    Orleans Roomy Rental

Spent a wonderful reunion with various cousins and other family members during our week at this rental. Loved the openness of the mainlevel and the fact that there were multiple outdoor spaces for us to spread out into smaller groups for conversation and relaxing.

The kitchen was well-equipped and having lots of counter space was AWESOME! And being located close to markets, beaches and P-town made our time on the Cape that much more enjoyable.

The owners were really nice and helpful before and during the rental. Hope to rent this home again in the future. show more show less

    Great Kid-Friendly House

Our family had a fantastic vacation at this home! This was our second time renting the house and it was clean with nice decor. The kids loved the toys and board games in the house. There is a screened-in porch with a table so we could enjoy eating outside without my daughter worrying about the bugs.

The house is in a private and secluded spot close to the Cape Cod trail, downtown Orleans, mini-golf, lighthouses, and Skaket and Nauset Beach. We look forward to renting it again! /> show more show less

When our parents retired in 1990, after having lived on both coasts and in Europe, they moved to the Cape for a year to see if it's as magical as countless narratives.and a glance at a map suggests. When they discovered that the answer is yes, they went about looking for a comfortable easy-living home set-back from the road, with water frontage and lovely views.

They saw quickly that they wanted to settle in Orleans because it's at once charming and comfortable and also has the best services and shopping, essential for our mother the chef. After months of searching they found this house which became their retirement home. After their passing the house became our family's little piece of
    heaven.

At low tide we walk down to our waterfront and (with a license) gather clams. We take morning dips, shower off in the outdoor shower, and then sip cappuccino on the oversize deck overlooking the cove. When the sun gets high we open the retractable awning and sip cold wine on the deck. If it's raining, the eastern end of the deck is roofed and screened-in.

What is special about this property?
The house, which is open plan, has the living room, dining area and kitchen all in one very large great room. The result is perfect for vacationing and relaxing. Whoever is cooking is not off alone in a kitchen, but in the middle of things. Our mother was a chef and, unlike most rental houses, we supply a truly outfitted cook's kitchen. Think All Clad pans, KitchenAid stand mixer, espresso machine, Cuisinart, lobster pot and tools, lovely serving platters, etc.

The house is not visible from the street. In fact, when you pull-up the first time and enter the driveway you will be wondering;: ''Is this really the place?'' Trees and shrubs line the drive which ends in a turn around just in front of the house. There is no worry that a young child will step out the door and into the street.

As remote as the house feels, it is just a 10 minute walk, or a 4 minute drive, to town and shopping. The Rail Trail is about a mile away. Three super markets (Friends, Stop and Shop and Shaws) are within 5 minutes. Restaurants, many specialty shops, outdoor outfitters, and excellent fish and liquor stores are all within a 5 minute drive.

If you have (or rent) a canoe or kayak you can put-in to Town Cove on our waterfront and explore all of the Nauset estuary.

What is special about your town?
The Cape, in Orleans, is about 5 miles wide and our house, on Town Cove, is about midway between Nauset Beach on the ocean side and Skaket Beach on the bay side. If you'd rather freshwater (ideal if your kids are very young, or you just like clear freshwater) Crystal Lake is about a mile away and Nickerson Park, with 3 lovely swimming lakes and beautiful walking and bike trails, is maybe 8 minutes away.

Many houses that feel truly private are easily 20 minutes to a loaf of bread or a quart of milk. Here you will feel that you have ''gotten away from it all'' but won't have to drive 30 minutes round trip if you forgot to buy your kid's favorite snack.
