Description

Description

This outstanding woodsy, breezy location is surrounded by 1000-ft waterfront, with water view from all sides of the summer cottage, yet trees at waterline ensure privacy. The cottage is divided in two parts; the light, airy living/dining room with stone fireplace, cathedral ceiling and skylights, kitchen and master bedroom are connected by a terrific screened, skylighted sun porch to the bathroom and two bedrooms with twin beds.

Ashumet Pond is a ''multi-purpose'' pond, accommodating swimmers, fishers, and all boats including row, canoe, paddle, sail, and motor boats. The nearby Audubon Holly Reservation and Sanctuary offers nature walk paths and wildlife. A public golf course (Paul Harney) is within 1 mile and bike paths are easily accessible. Short drive to grocery stores, shopping, movie theaters (3), restaurants, and ocean beaches. This is a great spot for for a laid-back, unplugged vacation. Rentals from June through September.

    Beautiful Camp
    June 2021

This is one of the most beautiful camps I've stayed it. Truly surrounded on 3 sides by water but with plenty of space to park and relax. Because of it's location there is a cool breeze the whole week so you won't miss an air conditioner. 2 full bedrooms but there is a small 3rd bedroom off the living room which can be used.

Very well maintained and very clean. Great breezeway divides the living area with the small bedroom and the 2 larger bedrooms allows for early risers to not disturb the other people.

The lake beach is steps from the door and the perfect size for a family (maybe 20 feet long). The lake is full of stones so bring water shoes and only gets deep a ways out from shore.

    Great vacation with my dogs!

Relaxing waterfront vacation with family and dogs
    July 2021

My family has loved vacationing here for several years! Each bedroom has a view of the water, the cross breezes through the property keep us comfortable even on hot days, and the water is absolutely amazing and so clear! No TV or internet is actually a huge bonus as it really helps get everybody outside and truly taking advantage of this wonderful property.

I bring some kayaks and my dogs, so my family spends our days swimming, kayaking around the pond, relaxing, taking naps in the hammock, and making s'mores at night.

The outdoor shower is private, but also provides a water view and it's so lovely none of us have ever even thought to use the indoor shower.

My favorite bedroom is the front bedroom with twin beds as it has a secret bonus, a sink! There's plenty of room for parking, no worries about neighbors being too close, and quiet privacy without feeling too isolated.

Other members of my family take advantage of the many things to do in the area, but I prefer not to leave the property much (or at all) because I treasure our time there so much.

    Our Happy Place
    July 2019

My family has spent a week in this mellow, magical place every August for approximately 20 years. I was a teenager for our first stay and am now the married mother of a 5 year old who is eagerly anticipating her time there the next month.

The simple but thoughtful accommodations compliment the setting to facilitate a low gear & unplugged vacation I can’t replicate elsewhere. Curling up with a book in the great room, pausing occasionally to behold the beauty of the light bouncing off the water & filtering through the trees. Playing board games in the screened-in porch that connects the two spaces of the house. Bribing my brother with future s’mores so he’ll pull me around the point on a tube. Sitting in the chairs on the little sandy beach and watching my daughter toot around the water. Going for a run or a bike ride to the bird sanctuary. Sleeping with the windows open and enjoying the breeze off the pond. Playing endless fetch with the four legged family members who figured out where we’re going at a certain point on the drive and started furiously wagging their tails. These are some of my favorite things in life and I’m grateful I get to do them here!

The Monday-Monday nature of the rental schedule is brilliant for traffic avoidance traveling to and from the Upper Cape. While the cottage is modestly sized, we’ve found if you close the doors leading to the center porch, the night owls can sleep while early birds visit and vice versa. There’s an additional door on the great room/master side that makes thoughtful kitchen use while people in those rooms are sleeping possible too. The kitchen is small but intuitively organized, sufficiently kitted and easy to clean up. I do pack my own sharp chef’s knife but do that for any rental!

If you’re a light sleeper in the twin bedrooms earplugs & a fan for white noise is recommended as people have to pass the rooms to access the bathroom. The twin mattresses are very comfortable. There is sufficient storage between the locker, closet and drawers for my now little family of 3 to be organized in the room I’m always assigned and the second twin bedroom is similarly situated. Providing these details because I think people see twin beds and think “kids only” and I don’t find that to be the case here!

There are some roots to navigate from the house to the beach, but we’ve found them very manageable; including those of us with visual impairments and lower mobility. At night you’d want a headlamp until you have them memorized though.

You’ll experience some boating noise (especially on the weekend) but compared to larger bodies of water it’s minimal. There is some air traffic due to the proximity to base but it’s never been a problem for us and overall we find it very quiet compared to everyday living.

Hope this review helps a similarly-minded family find their happy place :-)

    Simple, private, amazing
    September 2015

One of the most private settings you could imagine: surrounded by water on three sides and woods on the fourth. The cottage itself is humble and not kitted out with all the amenities of home, but it is simple living at its best. The photos do a good job of reflecting what you’ll find. The water is crystal clear and even in late August was not too warm. We saw little boat traffic and even when power-boaters and jet-skiers were on the pond (it’s really more lake size), they were not a nuisance. A couple of times during our week there was some steady traffic of Coast Guard planes and helicopters taking off and landing at nearby Otis Field but the vast majority of the time it was tranquil. A true slice of paradise. show more show less

We have been hesitant to write a review because we feel we know about the best kept secret in Mashpee. The location of the Point is wonderful with water views from every window in the house. Our family stayed last year and this year, and we have great memories.

    Great place to relax
    July 2013

My family has been staying here for something like 14/15 years.

This is a great place to relax and unwind with friends or family. I've only ever gone with family, but the place can sleep 10 people so I've always thought it would be fun to go with friends (2 couples would have to sleep in the double beds).

My family does a lot of the following: chill out and read a book, bbq at night, swim in the pond, go for a run around the pond, play games on the porch, etc. Close to Mashpee Commons for those who like to shop. We spend a couple of days throughout the week doing stuff, probably more stuff at night and stay in during the day.

The interior as pictured is decorated in blue and white and it's wicked cute. I live in Boston and have a mini-dream of getting married on the Cape and renting this house for a week, so this house can be where I do all my getting ready photos, since I probably have as many positive family memories in that home as my childhood home.

The outdoor shower is probably the highlight of the place. I remember the 1st year we rented we used the indoor shower maybe once, and never again! The outdoor shower is the bomb! Another plus is the breeze that comes in at night through the windows is very serene. I've never once been hot at night when we stay there.

Doesn't bother us, but no wi-fi, no cable. It's the one week a year we unplug.

The ad says "pets considered" we've always brought our large breed dog with no problem! There aren't really any neighbors so she roams around and doesn't run off or bother anyone. Can't hear the main street from the house so nothing would lead her away from the property.

We'll definitely be staying here for the rest of our lives!

Thank you for this wonderful review, which describes a week at our place exactly how I picture and hope it would be for other vacationers, with an emphasis on relaxation and chilling out in the midst of nature. Clearly your family accepts it for what it is not, and enjoys it for what it is -- a very simple cottage in a terrific location.
