We were looking for a house that could accommodate many people, and this fit the bill. This is a real antique house so that made it very interesting. As it has been said, the stairs are very steep, so noone who is elderly would be able to make it up the stairs. However, there are bedrooms on the first floor and they are very large. It was nice to have the bungalow for my son's family to stay in as well. The property is pretty with a nice patio and herb garden. The kitchen space is tight but very well equipped. Youare across the street from Brooks Park which is a convenient location but be aware that there is weekly concert and you will hear the music. show more show less

This place is a large and well-appointed historic home that accommodated our extended family (dogs, too). Location is great near park, town center and beach. Liz is a great property manager who is more than helpful with all aspects of the rental. This top rating was earned so I encourage you to check it out for yourself.

A group of 8 of us stayed here for a long weekend while attending a wedding nearby. (All adults in late 20s/early 30s). The property easily accommodated our group with room to spare, one of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor actually has 3 single beds. We also had a dog in our group who LOVED the yard (fenced in - low fence but he wasn't bothered to jump over) and enjoyed running around while the group was hanging out outside. For an historic home, it was immaculate and well decorated, has modern bathrooms and kitchen, and a really lovely yard that has a grill and firepit. It's perfect for lounging around together during the stay and playing lawn games (equipment supplied). This is probably the best rental I have ever had in terms of how comfortable it was. The beds were all fantastic and comfortable, everyone in the group commented on what a good night's sleep they had. The location was excellent, right on Main Street in Harwich which was both easy to find the property and get around. About 5 minutes to the nearest beach and a variety of restaurants. Working with Liz to book our stay was very easy and she was extremely responsive and communicative during the whole process. Misc. other - WiFi was fast and worked great, three of us had to work from the house one day and had zero issues connecting or staying connected. TV in the living room was used sparingly but does exist. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies and basic seasonings. There are two grills (gas) available to use and wood for the fire-pit. Highly recommend. show more show less

The Sidney Brooks house has been lovingly updated with modern conveniences while keeping its original Cape Cod charm and character. The bedrooms are comfortable, well appointed and cool. The living room and dining room are spacious and perfect for hanging out or entertaining. The kitchen small but well equipped and functional. We absolutely loved the outdoor shower and gravitated to it, despite two completely redone full bathrooms. The owners have thought of every detail and provided all the amenities (from beach towels, to linens, to firewood, to toiletries...) for making this the perfect launch for a Cape Cod vacation. The property manager was incredibly helpful and pleasant, always responding promptly, answering our questions and accommodating our requests. The home is clean, well maintained, and well stocked. The natural climate, screened windows, and fans keep the downstairs comfortable even on the hottest days. Window units keep the upstairs cold when temperatures soar. So, don't let the lack of central air keep you from this wonderful property! There's plenty of room for a large family to spread out and extra guests to visit. The home is "vacation ready"--all you have to do is pack your clothes and show up. Grab a bike and hop on the Cape Cod National Sea Shore bike trail; the bocce balls and play on the lighted court across the street; the croquet set and gather on the expansive lawn; the lawn chairs, beach towels and umbrellas and head to the beach. Laze in the hammock with a good book, roast marshmallows in the fire pit, or sit on the patio. Bike or drive to one of the many area beaches. There is something for everyone here! Harwich is a cute little town with lots of fun restaurants and shops to explore, some of which are less than a block from this historic house. This is a great location for exploring neighboring areas too including Chatham, Hyannis, and Cape Cod National Seashore. We had an amazing and memorable family vacation here and I'm sure you would too. Don't hesitate to contact Betty (property manager) if you have any questions. Thank you Allens for sharing your home! show more show less

What a wonderful stay we had at the Sidney Brooks house! We had some unforeseen circumstances that led us to be without a place to stay on the Cape while on an extended family vacation (six adults, a preschooler, a baby, and a dog!). We couldn't believe our luck that this home was available and we were accommodated so quickly and thoughtfully. Our request was answered within minutes, and we were even able to check in early given our circumstances. When the cable went out briefly and when we accidentally blew a fuse during our stay, the hosts handled it immediately and kindly. The house is a gorgeous historic home located in the lovely Harwich town center, across the street from a wonderful town park with access to the bike trail (and the hosts give access to a shed full of bicycles -- which we thoroughly enjoyed!). Getting to other parts of the Cape is easy, and the house is perfect for relaxing at "home" as well. We cooked, played games, hung out in the hammock and played baseball outside in the spacious yard, and enjoyed lots of family time together in comfort. The rooms are large and furnished with everything you'd need (the kitchen is small but well-stocked, minus a microwave -- understandable with old home wiring!) and the layout is nice. The stairs were a little steep for our young child (he just needed supervision) and the old floorboards had some errant nail heads -- just things to be aware of in an old house. Those are the only tiny flaws I can think of in this wonderful home. We would absolutely stay there again! We were homesick for our "home away from home" when we left! show more show less

My first visit to Cape Cod was as a middle school student. When I stood on the ocean side beach, I said to myself, ''Someday, I'm going to live here!!'' And, in my early 30's, I moved to Eastham with my husband and five children.

We owned and managed a cottage business for five years. In 1984, we sold that property and built various houses in Eastham. I started college, at the local Community College, and upon graduation, commuted off Cape to obtain a Bachelor's degree.

I became a ''vacation rental owner'' 24 years ago when I purchased the house on Clayton Road. At first, I lived in the house and rented my primary residence but eventually decided to rent this house only.

Guests have been fabulous. They appreciate the unique location with privacy and easy walk to First Encounter Beach.

What is special about this property?
Location, location, location! Eastham was the only Cape town to have TWO beaches listed in the top 20 beaches on Cape Cod - First Encounter Beach on the bayside and Coast Guard Beach on the oceanside. They are less than a mile and 2 miles from the house. It's an easy walk from the house to the former and it is also possible to bike to the ocean beach, as well.

Furnished with an extremely comfortable bed in a huge master bedroom, the house and quiet area guarantee a good night's sleep. And ALL LINENS ARE SUPPLIED, including bath and beach towels.

What is special about your town?
Eastham is the best kept secret of Cape Cod. Still unspoiled with development, it is 3 miles wide from bayside to oceanside and there are ponds dotting the land in between. The bike path runs right through the middle so you're never far from enjoying a nice walk or bike ride (there are bikes and helmets for you to use at the house).

Monday nights, at Windmill Green, you can enjoy a free concert with great local talents. Should you have a rainy day (hope not) the NEW state of the art library is amazing. Stop for a visit - even if the sun is shining.

The National Seashore Visitor's Center is in Eastham!!! There are several attractions there, one not to miss is how the Cape was formed. A definite must from there is the walk out to Coast Guard Beach. A lovely paved path makes this an enjoyable stoll or bike ride even.

Fort Hill has two natural wonders; the outer most portion has benches to enjoy the ocean or the superb walk through the marsh with a boardwalk (spring of 2017 renovation). Lots of natural wildlife and quietness.

Eastham has the oldest windmill on Cape Cod! If you can return the first weekend after Labor Day, you can celebrate the annual Eastham Windmill Weekend event. All free! includes a Friday night talent show, Saturday sandart at First Encounter Beach, Windmill Green performances and a food truck with a beer garden on Saturday night. The theme changes each year and the parade on Sunday, reflects the theme.
