Description

Plan a summer getaway to a breathtaking post-and-beam home on 3 very private wooded acres – with 250 feet of frontage on the Cape's largest freshwater pond. Large level backyard abuts our private sandy beach - providing hours of fun for kids and adults. Swim, boat, fish, … relax.

The open-concept first floor includes many custom amenities … airy 10-foot ceilings, hundreds of books, gourmet kitchen with double ovens & gas range, a large dining area, great room with a gorgeous granite fireplace, and a cozy den. Pond views are everywhere … out the 8' tall French doors in the great room, den, and MBR, which lead to a large roofed porch – where you can have morning coffee and take in views & spectacular sunsets.

Up the hand-made oak paneled curved stairway, you'll find more water views, a second MBR with bath, two more spacious bedrooms, a loft seating/reading area and a bath w/Jacuzzi. Start the day on the porch with your coffee, and visit with our goldfinches and hummingbirds. If you must, you can get connected via high-speed internet access - our wireless router allows you to ''work'' from the porch as well as the rest of the house.

Later on, relax on our beach, and take a paddle in our little yellow Keowee kayak or Yak board. Take a relaxing swim - the water is not only clear and inviting, it's normally much warmer than the ocean. Bring a fishing rod (kids don't need a license) and catch a small-mouthed bass or perch. Guests have reported lots of good fishing every year. By the way, you don't need a fancy bass boat for fishing success on our pond! We have a great photo of a happy five year old holding his 17 inch smallmouth bass along with his plastic Bart Simpson fishing rod. We'll leave some beach chairs and toys for the kids in the boathouse. Afterwards, freshen up in our outdoor shower.

The view has to be seen to be appreciated. Gorgeous sunsets over the water are common. From the beach, the porch, and the house look out over miles of shoreline with almost no visible houses. Just minutes from salt water, yet the feel of a secluded New Hampshire lake.

When you can tear yourself away from Long Pond, enjoy Harwich’s beautiful Nantucket Sound beaches (four miles south) or the Brewster flats on Cape Cod Bay (4 miles north). Head to the National Seashore (20 minutes by car). Want to get out to sea? Take a day trip to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard; or a whale watch out of Barnstable or P'town. The bike path is nearby, too. We’ll give you lots of ideas for restaurants, beaches, shopping and excursions. Shop for antiques, go to a play, sample cuisine from fried clams to exquisite formal meals. Or, you may find that the charm of Long Pond is all you need to make your vacation complete!

c. We saw the old brown bass that hangs out near the raft.
d. We rode the bike trail.
e. We went to the gocart track.
f. We will remember this vacation for a long time to come as one of the happiest we have had.''

And from some repeat guests:

Beautiful home and pond - close to beaches!

What a wonderful week we had at this beautiful home on Long Pond! This home is nestled in the woods and is so unique on the Cape with its "cabin lodge" feel right on the pond. The house was very spacious (plenty of space for 6 adults and 2 kids - huge bedrooms) and had every essential we needed, including linens/towels provided through a delivery service, which we loved (we have stayed on Cape before and had to bring our own linens, which creates a lot of post-vacation laundry!). We loved having central AC, washer/dryer and an outdoor shower. Waking up every morning to have coffee on the back porch while watching so many bird species and humming birds visit the feeders was so relaxing. My kids LOVED looking through the house bird books to ID what species we saw. The humming birds were hilarious and could be quite territorial!

We enjoyed much time at the beautiful pond and sandy beach. My kids went fishing in the early morning from the beach and on the provided kayaks. The adults enjoyed drinks and apps in the early evening while taking in the beautiful sunsets. The location is perfect in that it was only a short drive to beautiful beaches, yummy restaurants, grocery stores, mini-golf and go-karts, Sundae School ice cream.

The owner, Kris, was truly so nice, very responsive, and helpful. Kris responded to my emails within hours leading up to our stay and was very responsive to texts during our stay. I asked for instructions on using the central vacuum cleaner system (even with hosing off our feet from the sand at the beach, sand still made its way in) and to make life easier, she ordered a small light vacuum on Amazon which made quick vacuuming so much easier. It was so nice! I can't say enough nice things about her!

Thank you Kris for a wonderful week! We definitely look forward to a return trip!

    Fall Family Retreat

We just returned from a 3 week stay in this spacious and lovely home. Everything was just perfect. We had lots of sunny days and were able to swim and kayak a few times.

Kristen's house was comfortable for, at times, 5 adults and a very busy toddler. We loved watching the birds, the ducks on the pond and the occasional sailboat going by.

The location is very convenient. Right off the highway, it is close to Chatham, Orleans and Harwichport.

Kristen responds immediately to any questions you may have.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lengthy stay and hope to return.

    Long Pond Harwich home

Kristen's amazing home is perfect for a large family or group of friends. So many places to congregate or, if you prefer, small quiet nooks to relax with a book (hundreds to choose from). The house is clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked. Kristen has thought of everything you might need. Our favorite place was the patio watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds. They put on quite a show. Kristen is a very responsive owner. You won't go wrong dealing with her!

    Cape Cod Retreat

We enjoyed this secluded home with all its amenities. The private beach was great for swimming or kayaking or just watching a sunset. It was a delight to watch all the birds from the porch with morning coffee or evening refreshments. Didn’t have time to take advantage of all the games and books, but ping-pong was fun. It is in a good location to visit several beaches and explore the rest of the Cape. The owners made sure that we were well taken care of.

    Enjoyed this home again

We have stayed with this home before! The location on the lake is a beautiful spot! The house is near the lake. It was very convenient when the children were smaller to come home from the beach and take a refreshing swim in the lake, and the adults could enjoy a cool adult beverage while watching the children. The children have grown now and were not able to come this year as they had summer jobs. It was just adults this year. There is something to say about just adults on a vacation in a nice place like this one on Cape Cod. The house is near many fine restaurants and many antique shops that my son and daughter love to go to! They call it junking!

We enjoyed staying at this house as it is always clean and well kept and we noticed this year that they were a lot of spices left behind by other people or by the owners. We often eat out for lunch And we make our own dinners at the house! There was plenty of room this year for all of our activities and sleeping quarters!

Also this year, we noticed that the lawn has been expanded and some of the brush and plants were removed so that was we were able to see the water from the deck! I especially like being on the deck playing my Sudoku game and watching the birds!

We would recommend this home for a great summer vacation!

Thank you, Tim! It was wonderful having you and your family back, and so much fun seeing your photos. Yes, we like to leave the "basic supplies" so guests needn't bring their entire pantry with them - so herbs/spices, cooking oil, sugar, etc. We just ask that people replace something if they use it all up. And often we get new additions purchased by guests! Kris and Dave

    Peaceful!!

We were lucky enough to stay at this beautiful rental the first week in June. Close friends of the family were having a wedding in the area and this was a perfect place for a big group of us to stay....so open and roomy. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best but, this home was so comfortable and relaxing with beautiful views of the lake that we made the best of it enjoying indoor games and food and drink with family and friends .... Kris and Dave could not have been nicer or more accommodating to us. There wasn't anything they hadn't thought of to make our stay better!! show more show less

We bought this pond-front property 30 years ago, along with the small cottage that was on it. In 2000, we started construction on the house that stands today. My husband Dave put several years of effort into finishing the interior according to his vision - from the granite stone fireplace to the curving stairway. We aimed to make a welcoming home for family and friends, with comfortable rooms, a kitchen suitable for feeding them all, and immediate access to the beautiful Cape landscape.

We began renting it out in 2006, and have welcomed guests from all over the U.S. W We make every effort to meet our guests, and have developed many good relationships that have spanned many years.

The combination of lake living and access to the seashore is unbeatable - truly the best of both worlds for those who love the water. Come play in the sea and explore everything the Cape has to offer - then come back to relax on your own pond-front beach. Our sunsets rival those anywhere!

What is special about this property?
We built our post and beam home with the intention to live in it year round. Originally the land had been divided into two waterfront lots, but we wanted to place it ''in the woods,'' so we joined the lots.

On Long Pond our land is unusual in that there is a level, relatively wide open, and flat lawn on the waterfront. Normally this is an ideal spot for Frisbee or wiffle ball, as well as the handful of weddings we've held over the years. An additional advantage is the degree of privacy this three-acre property provides.

The orientation provide an amazing view of sunsets over the water, especially from the beach.

What is special about your town?
Harwich is a great vacation location! Bordering the ''elbow'' of the Cape, it is just far enough from the bridge (about 35 minutes) to feel ''away.'' You can easily reach any part of the entire Cape that you wish to explore In under an hour. For example, you can access the wildness of the National Seashore in 15-20 minutes, and land's end in P'town within 45 minutes. You can reach Nantucket for a day trip via the Freedom Ferry right out of Harwich's Saquatucket Harbor.

Everything you need is easily accessible as well - from the well-stocked grocery stores to the essential ice cream stands. And while we certainly hope you don't need this - should a trip to the doctor become necessary, you can get that taken care of at the Fontaine Medical Center right off of exit 11.

We have wonderful restaurants, classic ''warm'' water beaches on Nantucket Sound, and the Rail Trail for biking. Whether your tastes run to solitary beach and nature time or bumper cars, we have the opportunity in Harwich.
