Description

Description

Enjoy our Cape Cod house which dates back over 100 years. It was originally one of the houses rescued from Billingsgate Island that began to be taken by the waters of Cape Cod Bay in the second half of the 19th century. My grandfather, Harry Rodman purchased the house and property in 1918 for $75 when it was surrounded by fields and farms growing asparagus and turnips.

Originally a summer house it has undergone many renovations and we have added all the modern conveniences and necessities which we all expect and enjoy while trying to keep its distinct character and personality. .Across a large yard from the house, is a lovely cottage that is now occupied year-round by family.

The downstairs of the house has a kitchen, walk-in food pantry, and full bath. It connects to the dining area with a dining table that seats six comfortably and a separate seating area around a gas stove. From there, you enter the living room with French doors on the south end which connect to our enclosed sun porch. The sunny porch overlooks the back yard and has a table with chairs and other comfortable chairs. It is the most popular indoor space to eat and gather during the summer.

Past the pantry is a mudroom and the back entry to the house, where we have the washer, dryer and ample space for summer/beach supplies and equipment. Outside and beyond the mudroom is the outdoor shower which is a must to enjoy in the summer.

The bedrooms are upstairs and are reached by a winding staircase. There are three bedrooms upstairs and a half bath. The largest bedroom has a queen bed and two closets. The yellow bedroom has twin beds and dresser and the blue bedroom has a queen bed, ample closet, and built in shelves. with built in shelves. Alll the bedrooms get lots of light.

The sun porch looks out on a large back yard where we have a gas grill, large picnic table, and outdoor seating areas in the sun or shade. There is also a cloths line for those who like to dry their towels and clothes outside. There is plenty of room for adults and kids to congregate and play. The bike trail is just a couple of minutes away. The National Seashore Nauset Light ocean beach is a little more than a mile away, with Coast Guard beach a little further on.

Ten minutes away on the Cape Cod bayside, are numerous bay beaches, as well as numerous fresh water ponds in the Eastham area. We are also close to Wellfleet and Wellfleet's Marconi National Seashore ocean beach is 10 minutes away by car.

Wonderful home for a Summer Cape Visit

The property description and pictures are spot-on, as this is truly a "charming" home in a great location. This is our 12th visit to Eastham to spend time with local family and our 7th vacation home rented, and this home compares nicely with other properties in the area.
Though this house is indeed "older", which is common out here on the Cape, the home is clean, well-maintained, and does all the basics very well including comfortable beds, nice gathering spaces, decent appliances, with everything in working order.

The sunroom, which opens up to the living room through a pair of French doors, is a great place to gather on a sunny or rainy day, and air conditioning, provided by multiple window units upstairs and down, was more than adequate to keep everyone comfortable on our warmer August days. There is a convenient mudroom / laundry room when you enter from the back of the property which was perfect for kicking off sandy shoes and storing your beach gear, with a nice large washer and dryer in a convenient location if you happen to need it.

The 3 bedrooms upstairs were comfortable and fit our family of six very nicely. Accessed by a winding staircase which adds to the charm of the house with a small, shared half bath, it was nice to have separate sleeping spaces up, and living space down, which helps for our family of both early birds and the late sleepers.

The location is great. Only two-tenths of a mile from the Cape Cod Rail Trail (easily accessed via a short footpath at the end of a dead-end road directly across from the side of the property), which allowed easy access to a number of places without getting in your car including PB Boulangerie (excellent French bakery in Wellfleet), Hole-in-One Donuts and Sam's Deli. The ocean beaches are close, and biking on the local streets is easy and safe. We biked, walked, and jogged to Nauset Light Beach several times for short visits not requiring a lot of beach gear. The outdoor shower was great and there is a large picnic table out back to gather and eat outside on a nice day.

Mark, was excellent to work with and very responsive to questions. We very much hope to return to this property for our next visit and would definitely recommend this home to others.
