Home description
Beautifully remodeled 2 bedroom, sleeping den, and 2 bathroom home professionally designed by Spartina Interiors. The house is set on nearly an acre of naturalized landscaped yard and is centrally located to all the Outer Cape has to offer. It is within a 6 minute walk to Eastham's intimate Cole Road bay beach in one direction or within a 10 minute walk to the popular destination of First Encounter Beach and Bee's River in the other direction. A nearby trail ( 200 yards from the house) leads to the town lands and walking paths of Wiley Park. The trail leads to Great Pond from the less crowded entrance. The location is also a short drive to Coast Guard Beach and the National Seashore or to Orleans Center and in the opposite direction to Wellfleet and the rest of the Outer Cape. This home is one of two private residences on the property that are separated by a fence to maintain privacy; each with their own driveway.

About the renovations:
Herringbrook House was designed to fit into the landscape, to convey calm, and for comfort and relaxation The new kitchen has professional appliances such as a side by side all refrigerator all freezer, 36'' gas cooktop, wall oven and wall speed oven and microwave. Cookware is mainly All Clad and Le Crueset. Local potter, Chatham Pottery supplied Cape motif dishes, bowls and mugs. The counters are custom concrete. The kitchen along with the remainder of the home is supplied by antique and/or custom lighting all of which is controlled by individual central and task lighting. The kitchen and dining room have a two story clerestory area over the dining space with a large skylight above.

The beamed living room, off the kitchen area, features an oversized window looking out at the naturalized traditional outer Cape setting. This area has one of the 4 televisions in the home, a 65'' screen with Sonos Arc surround sound and is controlled by an Xfinty remote with voice control. The programming contains all major and premium channels such as HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Netflix and Amazon Prime. There are two comfortable Restoration Hardware sofas, Turkish tribal rugs and a 17th century credenza. The lighting fixtures are antique; one set of sconces are twin converted gimbal ship's lanterns. The paintings and art include a nautical map of the Eastham Bay area, several antique paintings from an estate in Martha's Vineyard of ships and black and white photographs taken by an artist photographer friend in St Thomas. As in the remainder of the home, the original oil or watercolor art work showcases the owners travels, local artists and love of the ocean. There is a comfortable modest deck off of the living room.

The first floor bedroom is comfortable with an en suite bathroom that also services the main floor. This bedroom has a queen size bed and mid century style furnishings with artisan concrete lamps. It also has a television with access to all programming that the living room and master bedroom do. Like all the beds, the queen is new. It's very important to us that our guests have comfortable sleeping arrangements. The mattress is a hybrid all natural latex and mini coil with an allergen protective cover. Pillows are foam. The bedroom and hall access a bathroom with custom hand painted tile from Greek artisans in a neutral palate.

The hall that connects the main living area to the bedroom suite is done in a classic herringbone stone pattern and leads to a small but efficient mudroom with antique hooks for easy hanging of outerwear and a coat closet.

The second floor contains the master bedroom which is bright and airy with three skylights and large windows. The master also has an Xfinity remote voice controlled television (55'') with a Sonos beam sound bar. The bed is a king size with a high-end Tempurpedic cooling memory foam mattress and foam pillows.

The bathroom has an oversized soaking tub, 15 foot custom shower with cement tiles, and a double vanity and separated toilet stall. It also houses the laundry. There are large windows and a double wide skylight.

The hall and stairs are made with steel cable railing. The office den area contains a convertible sofa with a memory foam topper for comfort and easy sleeping. This flexible living space also contains a television.

The second floor also has a small reading nook and access to a second floor balcony deck.
The home contains a mix of wide pine flooring that is classic in Cape Cod and New England and custom tile work in the bathrooms. The shades are custom designed natural woven linens or woven wood and are placed only in areas needing privacy, while other areas of the home offer views to the rear of the property.

The owners are always available to answer questions or provide assistance.

Cleaning fee is 250.00 Linens, towels and beach towels can be supplied for an additional fee of 150.00 Beach chairs and an assortment of coolers provided. Bike rack on premises

    beautiful home, lovely experience

I've been going to the cape most of my life- one of my favorite places. This is the best home I've stayed at!

Location is great - walkable/short bike to Cole Road beach, Wiley Park and more. But the best part is how the house is done. It has all the warmth, finishing touches, conveniences and care you expect not in a beach cottage, but in someone's forever home. That's what you feel from the moment you arrive - the gardens, the layout, the little details, it's just a beautiful, welcoming home. Btw the pictures don't do it justice - much better in person, a rare reversal of internet photo life. Stay here if you have the chance, you'll love it!

We LOVE this house, as well as its owner, a wildlife conservationist with a deep commitment to keeping the property environmentally sound. House is lovely, with sunny master bedroom and big, well-supplied kitchen. The best part: walkable to several ponds and the Bay!

    Best Place on the Cape!

This beautiful home wins lots of superlatives. A beautifully appointed home.
We loved the fully stocked kitchen with oversized refrigerator. Super comfortable beds, endless places to gather both inside and out, and a line to use the best outdoor shower we've ever seen! Walking distance to beautiful beaches and ponds makes this place extra special and the owners go way beyond to make sure you have a great vacation.
Our family has enjoyed vacationing on the outer Cape for years. We have lots of wonderful memories, best recalled by the less than favorable monikers we gave to the cottages.
This year...more wonderful memories made in a place that's hands down Simply the Best!

    Very Special House

Wonderful experience staying in this house -- whether it's the comfortable beds, lovely deck with retractable shade awning, spacious bathrooms, luxe outdoor shower, or well-stocked kitchen --it makes for a great, seamless getaway. The house is beautifully decorated, filled with light and in top shape. The hosts couldn't be more helpful or welcoming.
We enjoyed being very close to the bay and pond beaches as well as a short ride to the bike trail and then coming back to cook and grill in a chef's kitchen.
The couple of town pond beaches we went to were perfectly nice ( and at one, Herring Pond, the parking, though limited, is only a couple of steps away from the beach, which made it easy to use paddle boards, etc.) All in all, I can't say enough about the experience.

    Lovely, comfortable Cape Cod home

This home was a very comfortable stay during our family week at the Cape. The furnishings made it feel like you were at your own home during the stay. It was clean and had all the cooking utensils we needed for meals. I would stay here again! The location is very close to the beautiful bayside beach that also has wonderful sunsets!

Our family had a wonderful two weeks here. The house is VERY comfortable and has absolutely everything. We loved walking to the uncrowded bay beach and the trails to the ponds so easily. We love to cook and the kitchen was deluxe - a real treat for us - and it enhanced our time together preparing and eating meals significantly. The beds are super comfortable, and the bathrooms are much more "spa" like than at home! There's a beautiful outdoor shower which each of us loved and used daily. An unexpected delight was watching through the kitchen and living room windows the variety of birds that frequent the backyard feeders. It was truly mesmerizing. I could on and on, but I will end by saying Louise could not have been a more accommodating or helpful host. She's a gem and so is this home. show more show less

Second stay just as good as the first!

This was our second summer in a row renting this home, and it was as good if not better than the first time. The house and grounds are beautiful, and well located for the bay beaches, the ocean and the bike trail. Louise and Tom are wonderful hosts, and did everything they could to make sure that our stay was comfortable and seamless. So much attention to detail! We look forward to returning next summer!

    Lovely!

We had a relaxing and gorgeous week in Eastham, perfectly located near Orleans and Wellfleet and easily accessible to Provincetown. This is a well-appointed and beautiful home; the garden is especially lovely, attracting a variety of birds (and on one day a friendly cat). While most of our time was spent at the nearby bay beaches, the pond also looked inviting. There is much to do for all ages. Louise and Tom were easy to work with and very accommodating throughout our stay. We very much enjoyed our time here! show more show less

We love natural settings and wildlife and keep our home free from unnecessary chemicals and harmful pesticides. We hope you enjoy alewife cottage as much as we love it!

What is special about this property?
I love the area we live in. Some of my realtor friends call it the Gold Coast because of the beaches so close by. We are within walking distance to several bay beaches and two ponds and town conservation land is about 200 yards away. It's spectacular location. Our cottage is well designed, modern but classic and with beautiful furnishings and art from our lives and travel

What is special about your town?
Eastham is the gateway to the outer Cape
We have a long list of gorgeous bayside beaches and the Atlantic National Seashore. Aside from the salt water beaches are numerous fresh water lakes and ponds. There are miles of hiking trails and beautiful neighborhoods, and of course the beaches, bay and ocean.
