    Exceptional!

Our family had a very enjoyable stay at Alewife Cottage in early September. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. The property has lush landscaping and a privacy fence, that provide a tranquil and relaxing environment. There are several walking & biking trails, ponds and beaches nearby. When you have had your fill of sun and sand there's a very refreshing pool for you cool off in and an outdoor shower. Louise is a very attentive host and she has thought of everything to make your stay at the cottage comfortable! We look forward to returning again in the future!!

    Sanctuary Oasis in Wooded Eastham

Louise's home is absolutely amazing. Let's start with the POOL! My main goal this summer was to rent a home on the cape with a pool for the first time and I didn't regret it. We have been summering on the outer cape for over a decade. We have done it all from camping in Wellfleet and Truro to staying in hotels in Ptown and Wellfleet to renting a tiny old cottage in Wellfleet to then a house up the road from Newcomb, so we know the outer cape rentals and the going rates, etc. This summer I really wanted to do something special for our family and have a nice relaxing pool to cool off in on a lazy day or an afternoon after the beach.

I found Louise's home on this site and she made booking very easy for us. We have small doggies and we just don't feel right vacationing without them when we go for a week or more... and she gracefully allowed us to bring them along! We chatted on the phone and I immediately booked knowing I wasn't going to find anything so nice on the outer cape with a pool and dogs allowed.

When we arrived, it was so nice to meet Louise in person. She made herself available to explain everything and show us around. We also enjoyed a nice dinner and conversation with her on our last night there.

The cottage was so perfect for us. It is set in a quiet and serene wooded area surrounded by beautiful landscaping. The inside is all new and beautifully decorated like out of a magazine. I fell in love with the gorgeous loft lighting in the bedrooms that conveniently dimmed for a relaxing ambiance in the evenings. The kitchen had everything we needed, she provided beach chairs, coolers, beach umbrellas and pool floats so for the first time vacationing on the cape we didn't have to load our cars up with too much stuff! Which made packing and leaving so much less stressful. The beds were all made when we arrived so we could just focus on settling in for the week. The beaches were super close too so we could easily head to First Encounter for sunsets. Wiley park was also really close and such a nice place to walk the dogs in a sandy, wooded pathed trail park with a nice clear pond. There was a spot down to the right where dogs are allowed in also. What else can I say? We loved everything from all the art in the cottage to the pool lighting up purple at night, the close beaches, the deck, etc. And having laundry was also a must must for us!

We hope to keep in touch and rent again from Louise!

    Hidden Gem

Located in the somewhat less well known Cape Cod town of Eastham this cottage was a wonderful place to spend a vacation week on the 'Cape'. It is situated set back from the road so that it is quiet all the time. The owner has equipped the kitchen as well as our home kitchen and more so. The art work throughout was the opposite of industrial and each piece was interesting adding to the coziness. The beds were comfortable as were the linens while the towels were ample. Two showers one indoors and the other outdoors were all one needs. The pool was a bonus add on and it is dedicated to the cottage. Sitting by the pool with cushioned chairs we watched the wild life. In fact 2 chipmunks chasing each other fell into the pool and managed to get out on their own. Who knew chipmunks could swim? The owner is extraordinarily helpful with advice about the neighborhood and restaurants. Bay beaches are but short walks away and they are sparsely populated. We were 4 adults and it was comfortable. We would stay here again without a second thought. show more show less

    Another amazing stay

We've spent time on the Cape for a few years now- but this is the first time we wanted to stay at the same spot as the year prior. Ideal for a small family. Perfect cottage, perfect pool, just a short ride or walk to a couple of amazing bayside beaches (First Encounter Beach, especially) and a short drive from pretty much everything you could want on the Outer Cape. Great hosts.

Looking forward to returning next summer!

Beautiful cottage in a perfect location

We loved our stay at Louise and Tom's cottage. It was perfect! I was here with my three children. It worked because the youngest still likes to sleep with mom. My teen daughter slept in the other room and my teenage son in the nook by the door. Everybody was content and comfortable Even though everything is curated in this beautiful cottage, from the art on the wall to the hand-made pottery dishes, it feels warm and cozy, not like a museum. We felt right at home and had absolutely everything we needed on hand. We all loved the pool with the Lucious vegetation all around. Louise and Tom live next door, are non-intrusive and always willing to help. Every suggestion from Louise was right on. The location was ideal as we could walk to the beach and ponds and very central on the Cape to get around. We highly recommend this place! show more show less

    A fabulous nest

Our stay here - for the second summer running - was darn near perfect. This is a beautiful spot, well-situated near beaches and ponds, and wonderfully appointed with lovely furnishings and a secluded pool for hours of private relaxation. Louise is a gracious and efficient host. Recommend highly! And look forward to returning!

    Lovely cottage

Our family of four plus dog stayed for a week. It was simply a lovely spot and vacation. The cottage was very comfortable with lots of charm. The owner left a delicious pie which was thoughtful. The location was great - we could easily walk and bike to bay side beaches. Everything for the beach was provided which is convenient - chairs, umbrellas, coolers, even a cart. There was also a pond with trails walking distance which was a daily trip with the dog to swim. What makes the property spectacular is the outdoor space - the pool is nestled in beautiful landscaping with comfortable seating and a fire table. I don't think the listing pictures do it justice- it's beautiful. show more show less

a gem steps from Cole beach

louise was a fantastic host and welcomed us upon arrival. the pictures match exactly with the experience, and in fact the property is even more cute than the images suggest. walk to beach is 10 mins (2mins on the busy road then ~8mins on the small side road), route 6 with shops/restaurants is 5min drive, and the great hamlets like wellfleet, orleans, and dennis are 10-20min drive. but its best to explore the local ponds and trails, and Louise will be more than happy to show you the way (or guide you, if you ask!) very relaxing property, would definitely return. thank you so much! show more show less

    Pretty much perfect

Not our first trip to the Cape, but easily the best. The cottage is perfect- inviting and homey. The yard is terrific- private and well-maintained. The saltwater pool is ideal for when you can't make it to- or simply don't feel like- the beach. But the location, wow. Tough to overemphasize how perfect it is. Just a short walk from conservation lands and an amazing trail system that loops around nearby ponds, and only a bit further to two beautiful bayside beaches. We spent mornings at the beach, lazy afternoons by the pool, and evenings back at the beach to watch the sunset. Everything, including restaurants and stores, was close enough that we never felt rushed or stuck.

Louise was a gracious host, taking us on a tour of the grounds as well as a short walk to introduce us to the nearby trails. She also checked in during the week to see how we were doing and if there was anything she could help with.

Truly an amazing stay in every way- highly recommended.

    Amazing property

We had a wonderful time at the Alewife cottage. The location is perfect for both the bay and ocean beaches and coming home to a beautiful pool finishes off a Cape day perfectly. The pool is even better than the pictures show with complete privacy. The house is as comfortable a rental home that I've ever stayed at. All of the little touches make a huge difference as you feel like you're in your own home. Louise makes sure that the pantry has the little things you don't want buy when on vacation and is available for anything you might need. The kitchen is stocked with high quality plates, glasses, cookware etc. which is a really nice touch. Wifi and all the streaming services make sure the kids are entertained when done with the pool. Just a few minutes from both Orleans and Wellfleet so close to tons of restaurants (Macs Shack was our favorite). We'll remember this vacation for many years. show more show less

My husband and I have lived and traveled around the world, especially in the Caribbean. We have worked as producers, art directors and set designers for film and television. We love natural settings and wildlife and keep our home free from unnecessary chemicals and harmful pesticides. We hope you enjoy alewife cottage as much as we love it!

What is special about this property?
I love the area we live in. Some of my realtor friends call it the Gold Coast because of the beaches so close by. We are within walking distance to several bay beaches and two ponds and town conservation land is about 200 yards away. It's spectacular location. Our cottage is well designed, modern but classic and with beautiful furnishings and art from our lives and travel

What is special about your town?
Eastham is the gateway to the outer Cape
We have a long list of gorgeous bayside beaches and the Atlantic National Seashore. Aside from the salt water beaches are numerous fresh water lakes and ponds. There are miles of hiking trails and beautiful neighborhoods, and of course the beaches, bay and ocean.
