Description

Description

Because so many have asked, I'll put the answer up front: We don't have AC, but do have ceiling fans in every room. The prevailing wind is onshore so we often enjoy a breeze.

I've just put the July 4th week on the market. But I'm looking for a party who will not trash the house! This has happened before during this particular week, unfortunately. I prefer to rent to families for this week.

This Eastham house is ideally located on a private road on spring-fed Herring Pond, a trout-stocked pond that is wonderful for swimming and watching the sunset and herons. Take a 1.5 mile bike ride or walk to First Encounter Beach (bayside); or a 3.3 mile ride to the ocean beaches. The extensive Cape Cod bike trail is just steps away from the house. Bike 3 miles on the bike path to Orleans center for ice cream.

The full house includes large common areas, a finished basement, and plenty of bedrooms (7) to make this an ideal location for a family gathering or retreat. Kayaks and sailboats for experienced users. Tons of bikes. Free WIFI. Optional linens for reduced fee.

Herring pond is a clean, spring-fed pond that is quiet with no motorized boats. There is a PRIVATE/neighborhood-only sand beach right at the edge of our property, and a private dock. Nearby are several other kettle ponds, one with an enclosed playground. (Long Pond.) The CC Rail Trail (bike path) stretches for miles and is a few feet from the house. You can walk to Eastham's historic windmill green, and tour the functioning windmill. Enjoy free concerts there on Mondays in the summer. Provincetown is about 30 miles away. Summer theater for adults and kids is vibrant in Wellfleet next door. At nearby Salt Pond Visitor's Center sign up for walking tours, orienteering, clamming, and more. Also, the Wellfleet Bay Audubon Sanctuary is 4 miles away and shouldn't be missed. Don't forget one of the last Drive-In movies in the country is a few miles down the road.

Other Activities: use of our kayaks, paddleboards and Sunfish sailboats for experienced sailors.

Please note that our house is on a pond. This means that there will be insects buzzing around outside at night in the summer, and an occasional tiny spider may find its way into a corner of a room. Cleaners dust for them but they come back sometimes. Because we are right on the pond. Geese on the pond can be a nuisance, because they sometimes come up on the back yard. For guests who have (well trained!) dogs, that will automatically keep the geese away.
*NOTE: in the off season I rent half the house, 3 bedrooms. I use the other half for myself. Write to me for availability in off season.

    Large family heaven

This large eclectically furnished home has something for everyone in a multi generational group. Plenty of space to spread out both indoors and out whether you all want to get together or you are looking for a quiet spot. The location is perfect on a quiet sandy lane, yet it is close to Rt 6 and minutes to bay and ocean beaches. It is adjacent to the bike path and the kayaks and paddle boards kept the athletic crowd busy while the younger grand kids loved the pond. Kitchen was well equipped with cooking and serving essentials for a crowd,
Michelle is a pleasure to communicate with and responds promptly to questions or concerns. This was the second time I rented this home and hope to do so again.

Great place for a family gathering

We had three generations under one roof and there was something for everyone. The location is great with its proximity to the pond and the bike path. There are kayaks, paddle boards, bikes and plenty of games for the odd rainy day.

There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. We found the walkout basement level bath especially handy on our return trips from the beach. There are two balconies overlooking the pond affording you the opportunity to enjoy your morning coffee, relax with a good book or just sit and enjoy the view.

The geese could be a nuisance but if you chased them away they kept off the lawn. There is also a beach area adjacent to the property that stays pretty much "goose free".

The homeowner is very good about responding to questions or concerns especially with respect to the current health crisis. I would recommend this house as a great place for families.

Great location for large or extended family!!

This is a wonderful property! The owner was friendly and easy to get in touch with and responded to questions in a timely manner. The large, Cape style house was inviting, and when we drove up to it, it screamed "vacation" and I felt immediately relaxed! It is located on a dead-end private road so it was quiet with minimal traffic.

The property sits on a pond and offers all the toys you could imagine for the water (SUPs, kayaks, canoes, rowboat, sunfish, as well as a variety of tubes, flotation devices and noodles). True, some of the flotation devices had seen better days, but that happens. There were also plenty of life vests in a variety of sizes. There was a BBQ grill and plenty of outdoor seating. A fire pit was located on the far side of the yard and ample lawn chairs and two hammocks were available for lounging. My only complaint about the outdoor area was the invasion of Canadian geese that arrived when we were out during the day. We didn't see them wandering on the lawn, but they let their presence be known via droppings on the grass, in the water entering the pond and on a nearby floating dock. I know it's nature, but it was kind of a nuisance. It didn't stop us from swimming in the water, but most of us entered the pond by walking to the end of the dock and jumping in instead of wading in from shore.

The house itself had many rooms and bathrooms for large groups---I never had to wait for a shower! The rooms had plenty of space and bedding and if you stay in one of the rooms facing the pond, open the window at night for a heavenly summer evening breeze. I slept like a baby! There was plenty of room to spread out with lots of little nooks and balconies for privacy or for small or large group togetherness. The kitchen area is better if there's only a small group preparing meals. Our family takes turns cooking for one another and with this kitchen that worked out best.

The property owner provided a variety of bikes for use if you happened to need one. There were also many toys for the yard (balls, frisbees, etc.) and this was great on days we just chilled at the house. There are also books and board games available if needed.

The BEST part about this house, in my humble opinion, was the location :) On top of being on the pond, we were very close to the walking/biking CC Rail Trail, and biking/walking distance to First Encounter Beach for bay swimming AND a beautiful trail ride to CC National Seashore Coast Guard Beach!! No more paying for the beach, waiting for the shuttle, getting sand in your car, etc. It was amazing and even our youngest family member, my 8 year old nephew could do the bike ride. In addition, a small park, convenience store and a few local restaurants are nearby the house.

This was a fantastic choice for our family! We would recommend staying here and will likely book another week this summer!

    Favorite Vacation Spot

Large comfortable home in an outstanding location. This house nicely accommodates our family of fourteen (grandparents to toddlers and every age in between). There is much to do right on this lakefront property (swimming, kayaks, paddle boards, biking, hiking and fishing). Also, a large back yard for swings, games, cook-outs and ready access to the Cape Cod bike trail). This location also provides easy access to the bay and ocean beaches as well as other wonderful Cape Cod activities. My personal favorite activity (as Papa) was to teach the grandkids to fish as well as catching a dozen or so nice bass from the dock.
We have rented this property three times in the last five summers and plan to come back again soon.
This note left from our nine year old granddaughter to the property owner summarizes our feelings about this property. “Dear Michelle, Thank you for letting us use your paddle boards and kayaks. We love it here and hope we can come again. Papa fished every day from the dock. Bria”
