We just spent a fabulous week in this house, and I am excited to share lots of details to help you plan for your stay (especially in case you, like me, are not a local). First, the owner is fantastic. Very great with communications, addressing any issues that were unexpected, answering questions, etc. SUPER easy to work with.
Location: Eastham, half way up the Cape. Ideal location super close to ocean beaches (sandy beaches, big waves!), bay beaches (sandy beaches, calmer), and freshwater ponds (calm, docks to sit on & jump off, shallow entry). It's super quick to get down to Orleans for amenities (groceries, etc), but far up enough to feel quiet and relaxed. Easy drive up to Provincetown and back if you want to go up for a day trip. We stayed in Wellfleet last year, which is beautiful, but just too remote when you need anything.
You can walk to a beautiful bay-side beach from the house. The walk is via a pathway in the woods, down a road, then down a large set of stairs. It's not the kind of walk you want to take while schlepping a bunch of beach stuff or young kids, but it's great if you're light on gear or just want to walk down there for a walk/run along the beach or to take in a gorgeous sunset. Never fear, there are beaches galore within a 5-10 minute drive (with your gear and kids in tow). There are lots of great restaurants, mini-golf, bike paths, a drive-in theater, shops, and other activities to participate in around here.
The house itself is in fantastic shape. The kitchen is HUGE and stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. It comes with a sponge, dish and dishwasher soap, and little things like that, but no food items except salt & pepper (no other spices), so be sure to pack your own. (Also bring foil, plastic wrap, baggies, and containers for leftovers). The dining room seats 10 comfortably, more if you squeeze 'em (there is a high chair and 2 booster seats). The bar seats 3. The living room has an amazingly comfortable sofa that has two reclining sections, plus an oversized comfy chair. The place is outfitted with kids in mind (small kid table/chairs, toys for young kids, outlet covers throughout, nothing breakable within reach, etc. The 2 bedrooms upstairs each have two queen sized beds with lots of space in between them for luggage and moving around. There is a full bath with shower-over-tub upstairs. Downwstairs there is a large bedroom (with toys) with two twin beds, best used by kids (they feel more like cots, my 7 year old found it to be perfect). The master bedroom has a KING SIZE sleep number bed and a closet so large my son slept it in it one night on a mattress. (not joking!) LOVE the sleep number bed.
We ordered linen service, so all beds came made-up, and all bathrooms stocked with fluffy new bath and hand towels, and washcloths. Each bed comes with 2 pillows per "person". They are light/fluffy/fiber-fill. (BYO if you like down) The downstairs bathroom opens to the master BR and also the hallway. Dual-sink vanity (aka marriage-saver), and shower stall. Full size washer and dryer are right off the kitchen.
The basement media room: large sectional, coffee table, big TV w/surround sound. My 15 year old nephew claimed that room as his own man-cave. Everything is clean, in excellent condition, super practical, and family friendly. There is a sliding door from the living/dining room to a nice large deck with outdoor table/umbrella and a HUGE private yard. Outdoor shower (we didn't use). 4-car parking in the driveway. Convenient grill (one side charcoal, one side gas). Nice quiet, peaceful location. Way off-street (dirt road, actually) - your kids can play without fear of them running out onto a busy street. A/Cs in all bedrooms + living room (a godsend!). Friendly neighbors. Cabinet full of games, mostly geared toward very young kids, but there are some fun games for older kids and adults too. I found the coffee table the perfec show more show less
