Chatham, often known as ''the elbow'' to Cape Cod (referring to its corner most location where Nantucket Sound meets the Atlantic Ocean) offers both swimming in Nantucket Sound (calmer waters, some with tidal pools-great for young children) and the Atlantic Ocean. There are beaches right in Chatham where you can watch real seals in the open water and on the beach every day. You can even enjoy yoga each morning under the seals' watchful eyes.
Chatham also participates in the premier summer Cape Cod Baseball league with its hometown team ''The Chatham Anglers'' where many college players hope to be scouted. (World Series winners Buster Posey and Tim Lincecum both played here.) The ''A's'' also offer great half day baseball camps for $75-$90 fee per week.
People of all ages will love swimming or watching the sailboats cruise into the sunset over Oyster Pond on Nantucket Sound (walking distance). A brief 5 minute car trip (or 2 mile bike ride) will bring you to Lighthouse Beach, Hardings Beach and Ridgevale Beach, and numerous small ponds. Within a 20-30 minute car drive you will find the Cape Cod National Seashore, the Kettle ponds of Nickerson State Park, whalewatching in Wellfleet and the uniqueness of Provincetown.
