Description

Stroll to two bay beaches in minutes, Saint's Landing and Robbins Hill (recently renamed to Manse). Our beautiful 3 BR/2 BA home is approximately 300 feet from the water as the crow flies....but it might take you a whopping 5 or 6 minutes to walk to the beach. Enjoy bay views from every front window.

The Mink Shell is located moments from enchanting Brewster Village. Enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee or an ice cream cone at the Brewster General Store, or a wonderful meal at some of the Cape's best restaurants. Two of our favorites are The Brewster Fish House and Marshside.

Whale watching, charter & surf fishing, beachcombing, biking, and good old-fashioned home team baseball are just a few of the readily available activites near by.

Ride to the Cape Cod Rail Trail for family outings or picnics by various lakes and ponds.

Clamming equipment provided for seafood lovers!

Note: propane use provided for and included in price for short term rentals

We stayed at this fabulous location for 2 weeks. Everything in the house was as stated. The house was very comfortable. We enjoyed the comfy beds and the air conditioning on the hottest days of summer. The walk to the beach was quick and pleasant. We had the most beautiful sunsets from the front porch or down at the beach. The homeowner was very quick to respond to any questions we had. We would definitely rent this place again. It was a great fit for my 87 year old Mom. The convenience of the first floor bedroom room and walk in shower. We made memories to last a lifetime. Thank you, Judy show more show less

    Disappointing

The house was run down with shabby furnishings, curling dirty linoleum in the bathrooms, rusting radiators, two of the window a/c units were unusable due to very loud rattling noises. No window blinds in the bedroom with a futon. There was ingrained dust on ornaments. The kitchen was ill equipped with old, scratched teflon pans, rusty trays, pans with no handles. Many of the dinner plates were plastic. Most of the kitchen cabinets were filled with unusable objects. The refrigerator was very old, no light inside and leaked. We did not complain at the time because we had already dealt with the owners coming over on two occasions, one because the internet was out and the other because the futon had to be replaced because of a broken frame. We felt this was enough of an intrusion on our vacation time. We have been coming to the Cape for over 10 years and this is the first house we have complained about. On a positive note the beds were very comfortable and the surrounding area and beaches were very pretty. show more show less

    Owner Response:

Our home is in a premier location and furnished appropriately for its price. No complaints from our annual repeat tenants. We also do update and replace all items/furnishings as necessary and have done so several times during our rental tenure of 25 years. I'm glad these guests pointed out the curling linoleum in the bathroom corners which is the result of two new toilet replacements in the home from a plumbing leak prior to their tenancy which they were sent pictures of and offered the opportunity to back out of their lease--they declined and accepted the condition as is BEFORE occupancy as have all other guests thus far w/out complaint. We further explained our contractors could not finish the remaining upgrades (one of which is new tile flooring) before the summer season. This upgrade is scheduled for mid September after our last summer lease. Most importantly though this "issue" has nothing to do with functionality of the home and was disclosed by us and accepted by them. With regard to AC units: they all work and there is enough cooling capacity from the two main units to cool 2x the footprint of the existing house w/out even using the 3 BR units. What the guests failed to disclose is that the two intrusions on their vacation time were both at their request: first as a result of the internet being temporarily down in that neighborhood and surrounding area which was fixed by the provider in a few hours and secondly:about the futon-- they informed us that it was broken from a previous tenant (which we did miss) and ASKED if we could do anything about it.....we replaced it in 2.5 hours w/ a new one.at their request.show moreshow less

    Very disappointing

The rental of this property did not start out well. After a 6 hour drive to get there, and in the age of covid, no stops, the use of the facilities was paramount. Imagine the shock to see that the place had not been cleaned, at all. The bathrooms were filthy, the floors black when wiped with a paper towel, hair in the shower and on the floors; most disgusting the toilets with urine on the seat, etc. This despite my inquiring about the cleaning protocol just four days prior. The state of the house was totally unacceptable under normal circumstances, but particularly when there is a pandemic it made us feel very unsafe. Three and a half hours after being informed of the situation, the owner's response was: the cleaner had not been scheduled, and he offered we could leave with full refund, (but where are we going to find a place to stay at the last minute); not even an apology. In addition, the grill had so much grease build up that when turned on the flames were two feet high and impossible to control; even after turning off the gas, the fire burned for another 20 minutes. Obviously impossible to cook on.
Despite the owner saying he would pay us for the cleaning, we have yet to see an compensation. Starting a vacation off with having to scrub bathrooms, kitchen and floors is not my idea of fun or relaxing. Some compensation was warranted.
Ironically, on departure day the cleaning crew was hovering at the door 35 minutes before check out time. Although I understand that is not their fault, it just added insult to injury.

On the plus side, the house is in a lovely neighborhood, an easy walk to a Bay beach and centrally located. However if you are interested in a clean house, this is not it.

    Several clarifying facts here:

    1. Our home was cleaned every week all summer and her statement of "filth" is inaccurate. There may well have been hair in the shower and or on the floor but we never saw it.
    2. We DID have a miscommunication with our cleaner and she missed this cleaning on Sat AM which we rectified as soon as we were able to contact her. Additionally, the tenant claims it took us 3.5 hours to respond to her……what she failed to mention is that she didn't call us, but emailed instead. If the situation was as dire as her portrayal, it would have warranted a call. Moreover, the tenant did NOT want her (our cleaner) to come over Sat afternoon or evening, and instead wanted her to come on Sun AM, which she did at 9AM. I additionally immediately offered the tenant a full refund with the ability to leave on Sat if she so chose, or to depart Sun AM w/ no charge for the night in addition to my offer to pay her for the time she spent "cleaning" which she claims was 3 hours ---we dispute this--- if she decided to leave. She chose to stay; therefore she could not have felt "unsafe," especially when offered a full refund. Also at 9AM on Sat, my wife personally met with her and gave her a nice bottle of wine and apologized on our behalf for the coordinating mistake with our cleaner. My wife also cleaned the grill for her without complaint and asked if there was anything else that we could do for her and she said no, thank you for taking care of this. Note that this was an off season week (last week of the summer and there was plenty of availability all over the cape if she wanted to leave. We understand the frustration of discovering the mistake, but it would only have warranted this response if we failed to rectify it for her.
She didn't feel unsafe enough to leave with a full refund being offered, accepted our gift, allowed access Sun AM for the cleaner to come in and then thanked us for correcting the problem.
    3. With respect to paying her for her "cleaning" I want to reiterate that I offered to do that in conjunction with her refund if she opted to leave.
    4. Omitted from her rant is what we found when the tenant departed—a broken lock on the door with a key broken off inside of it, inhibiting the new tenant from entering. This required a locksmith and late entry of the new tenant. We did NOT bill her for the $185 this cost us to fix via removal & replacement under emergency conditions. I called her and she denied having anything to do with this and in light of her "keen attention to detail," I doubt she would have stayed all week in an unsecurable home? We know the lock worked before she entered and did not work upon entry for the next guest upon their arrival only hours after her departure. I had all the right to withhold the $185 from her deposit and did not in order to not aggravate her, but even this wasn't enough.
    5. Last, she wasn't happy that screens weren't on the windows and asked us to remove the AC units (I politely told her they were scheduled to be in until at least 9/15), only to later clarify she did not mean to have them removed, but wanted screens put on the windows which my wife immediately did for her. The screens were in place when the previous tenants were in residence. My wife thanked her for letting us know that they had been removed.
    6. We would like all tenants to know that in the 18 years we've been renting our home, we sincerely appreciate your business, constructive feedback and mutual respect. Our business wouldn't work without you. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your family's vacation memories!

    Wonder stay

We had a great stay at The Mink Shell. John was a wonderful host and answered any emails I sent with prompt responses. The house was well equipped. The beds were comfortable and each room had window air conditioners. The location was perfect. The two beaches that you could walk to, were a little rocky but still nice to go to. The back yard was very private and had a nice table to sit at. We left a jacket in the closet and John was nice enough to mail it to us in less then a week's time.

We have been renting this vacation home for the last two years. It is a comfortable home in a great location within walking distance of two bay beaches, with views of the bay. The house is in a wonderful neighborhood for walking and biking. It is near shops such as Kate's Ice Cream, the Brewster Store, Lemon Tree shops, and many restaurants. Looking forward to renting this house again!

    Highly recommend!

This is a lovely home in a desirable neighborhood, close to everything. Our family enjoyed the ease of walking to the 2 beaches and taking our dog on strolls in the neighborhood (unfortunately, no dogs allowed on the beach). The house is very clean, well-maintained, comfortable and spacious. Unlike many other homes we've rented on the Cape in the past, it's also light and airy. The owner was easily accessible and responsive and I wouldn't hesitate to rent this house again!

    Great Brewster Beach Location

Great beach house location in Brewster! Short walk to beach and located in a very quiet, low traffic neighborhood. Perfect place to relax in between excursions to other parts of the Cape. Nice breezes. Very clean house, and good space for up to six people and pet friendly! Outdoor shower used extensively during the week and gives your family an option to rinse off after a good beach day. Homeowner very accommodating as we had a need to enter the home early due to a family commitment, etc.

    Great place!

We rented The Mink Shell for a week in July, 2016, our first time renting on the Bay side of the Cape. It is a comfortable, well-equipped home, a short walk to two beaches, as advertised. The backyard was safe for the kids, as was the neighborhood for bike riding for them. They had a great time looking for sea creatures at the Brewster flats when the tide was out. We've already booked our week for 2017.

Wonderful place to stay in Brewster!

We have rented this lovely home for a week in July over the past 3 years. The house is very spacious and has everything you need for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation; working appliances, air conditioning, gas grill and outdoor shower. The house is in a convenient location, with a beautiful ocean view, and it is within walking distance to 2 great beaches. The neighborhood is quiet with not much traffic, perfect for walking or biking with kids. The Lemon Tree Village, Brewster General Store and Kate's ice cream are all within walking or biking distance! We are looking forward to our next stay! show more show less

We rented last summer and plan to rent again this year. Great home for families. Close proximity to two bay landings. Walk to beach or load up the car and drop off gear. No need to purchase a parking permit. Quiet roads and nice for bike riding with the family. Close to restaurants and shopping.
