Milling Around Cape Cod

When "milling" around Cape Cod on your next vacation, why not make it a point to visit a local windmill? Milling Around Cape Cod

Visit an oldie, but goodie

Eastham is home to the last working gristmill on Cape Cod, still used occasionally to grind corn. The Eastham Windmill is also believed to be the oldest on the Cape, dating back to 1680.

Visit a colorful character

Higgins Farm Windmill, located at Drummer Boy Park in Brewster, was erected in 1795 and ground grain for 105 years. It is equally beautiful in the fall surrounded by striking colors.

In December, this Brewster windmill is decorated with lights for Brewster for the Holidays

Visit a hard worker

Head to Nantucket to visit the Old Mill, which really "puts its nose to the grindstone" in the summer when it grinds corn.

Visit a bathing beauty

The Judah Baker Windmill sits on the shores of the Bass River in Yarmouth. There's a beach there with the same name, Judah Baker Beach.

Visit a hometown hero

The Chatham Windmill was built in 1797 by Benjamin Godfrey and is one of the few windmills that has not been moved from the town in which is was built.

Visit a mover and a shaker

First built in 1791 in South Dennis, the Judah Baker Windmill was moved multiple times. First to Kelley’s Pond in Dennis, then to Yarmouth. In the mid 1800's, it was moved again, just down the street to where it currently sits along the shore of the Bass River in Yarmouth.

About Susan Hutchins

About Susan Hutchins: I joined the WeNeedaVacation team in 2012 and write website and blog content as well as promote WeNeedaVacation.com through social media. Having grown up spending summers on Nantucket, I have a strong connection to Cape Cod and the Islands. I now live in New Hampshire with my husband, two children, and golden retriever, and we are frequent visitors to the Cape. I love running local road races, the Brewster in Bloom 5K being a favorite. My family enjoys biking on the Cape Cod Rail Trail, hiking in Nickerson State Park, and relaxing on the beautiful beaches (usually a dog friendly one!).
