About Nantucket Whaling Museum ...Housed in a former candle factory built immediately following Nantucket's Great Fire in 1846, the museum was restored in 2005. Featured exhibits include a restored 1847 candle factory, expanded top-quality exhibition space, and thea forty-six foot skeleton of a sperm whale that washed ashore on New Year's Day in 1998, the 1849 Fresnel Lens used in Sankaty Head Lighthouse, decorative arts, scrimshaw and lightship baskets, paintings, samplers and portraits of sea faring men and women, items of Nantucket history and prehistory. There is a fully accessible rooftop observation deck overlooking Nantucket harbor. This is a must see while on Nantucket for visitors of all ages.

Now that we have several grandchildren, we are looking for creative things for them to do when they visit. We attended one of the craft days last weekend. Great program!! We will definitely visit again.

Loved this Museum! Lots of history and information and a great learning experience. Seeing a skeleton of a whale was something I will always remember. Great displays and informative guides.
