Lots of Last Minute Deals Available for Summer 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wellesley - July 25, 2008
Wellesley, MA-With gas prices up 74 percent over last summer, some families are
thinking they will have to forego their vacations this year. But owners of
vacation rentals in Florida are hoping to change that thinking by deeply
discounting homes and condos to fill remaining summer vacancies.
"Vacation rentals can be less expensive than other types of vacation
accommodations," explains Kathy Jones of WeNeedaVacation.com, a vacation
rental-by-owner website that lists rentals in Florida. "Obviously, the main
savings comes from having a kitchen at your disposal. It can be even more
relaxing to eat on your lanai overlooking the Gulf of Mexico or a sparkling
pool than going out to a busy restaurant. Buy local specialty foods such as
shrimp or fresh mangos and it's a treat!"
Ms. Jones says many of the website's clients recently have discounted their
vacation rentals. Jim and Marilyn Horton, who live in CT, own a beachfront
2-bedroom condo on Fort Myers Beach. "We are usually full by now but have
several vacancies for the summer," says Mr. Horton. "We've reduced our rates
from $850 per week to $595 in hopes of filling those weeks." The Hortons point
out that their condo is on the Fort Myers Beach trolley route, so their guests
can park their car and not use up gas.
Sanibel Island's first Green Lodging resort, beachfront Ocean's Reach, still has
a good selection of units available for summer. Unit owners with some
vacancies, such as Judith Jaastad from Des Moines, IA, are hoping to benefit
from the resort's last minute discount policy. "I'd like to help out
vacationers any way I can," says Ms. Jaastad. "Discounting my price by 30%
means a family of four can rent my beachfront unit on this beautiful, tropical
island for less than $1,000 per week."
Similar bargains can be found in Florida's Panhandle, a popular summer vacation
area. Bill Grannan of Crystal Waters Realty in Miramar Beach recently listed
with WeNeedaVacation.com a 5-bedroom home that sleeps 14 located in a community
with a private beach and pool. "We have availability from the end of July on,
and the price of $1,225 for a week is just $12.50 per day per person. Plus, we
are offering 15 percent off all rentals until November," Mr. Grannan points
out.
Owners of vacation rentals that can only be rented by the month are offering
some of the best deals, Ms. Jones explains. "Since some 50 percent or more of
visitors to Florida during summer come from within the state, these owners are
offering a very low monthly rate. Vacationers who live 100 miles or so away
inland or on another coast can then use the rental for a week and return for
two or three more weekends. Typically, these monthly rentals are listed for
only about 50 percent more than the cost of a weekly rental."
