Guide to Bonita Beach vacation rentals

See our 2 Bonita Beach Vacation Rentals.

Bonita Beach is Bonita Springs’ gulf front sister community located on a barrier island to the west, between the Gulf of Mexico and Estero Bay. Along with shorefront on both the gulf and bay, the Imperial River flows through the downtown district of the city located on Little Hickory Island.

Bonita Beach offers a beautiful coastline in a serene, even romantic atmosphere. Two beachfront parks, Little Hickory Island Beach Park and Bonita Beach Preserve Park, and 10 beach accesses with public parking located up and down Bonita Beach bring you to the sparkling white sand of these Gulf of Mexico beaches. Bonita Beach Preserve Park is on the northern tip of Bonita Beach and offers a variety of amenities such as restrooms, shelters with tables and a grill, playground, and sand volleyball court. Parking is available for a nominal fee. With Collier County’s Barefoot Beach to the south and Lovers Key State Park to the north, there is no reason not to find a home for your beach blanket and chairs.

The celebrated sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico are not to be missed. You might even be treated to a “green flash.” Green flashes are phenomena seen at sunrise and sunset, when some part of the sun suddenly changes color (at sunset, from red or orange to green or blue). No story is more widespread, nor more false, than the “ancient legend” Jules Verne introduces in his 1882 novel Le Rayon-Vert, according to which, one who has seen the Green Ray is incapable of being “deceived in matters of sentiment,” so that “he who has been fortunate enough once to behold it is enabled to see closely into his own heart and to read the thoughts of others.”

Boating is a favored recreational activity as is fishing. Southwest Florida is home to some of the best fishing in the state. The natural environment of the Florida Gulf and fish rich areas such as Pine Island Sound and the Ten Thousand Islands rank with the best. The artificial reefs and natural ledges in the Gulf of Mexico provide homes to the big snook, redfish, trout and tarpon that fishermen are hoping to find. Both inshore and offshore guides are available.

Dining on Bonita Beach means having your choice of cuisines, from casual seafood “shacks” on the beach to sophisticated Italian dining on the bay. While not your typical beachfront tourist destination, you’ll manage to find a few shops which offer beachballs and flip flops, as well as boutiques and small galleries. Visitors to Bonita Beach who are looking for serious shopping invariably make the trip to the Miromar Outlet Mall in neighboring Estero or visit the shops at The Promenade or Coconut Point along the Tamiami Trail . The Flamingo Island Flea Market on Bonita Beach Road just west of Interstate 75 is also considered by many to be worth a visit.

All in all, Bonita Beach offers a nice beach lifestyle with attractions, shopping and nature opportunities close by.

Round out your vacation with a visit to Naples, just a short drive to the south, or Fort Myers to the north.
